There are three items accounting for the low rating numbers, and it has nothing to do with the writers, the comic book, or any of joe's kind of turn-around attitude.
1) The elections. Across the board, the ratings were low, and a lot of people were definitely going to DVR because of the political ads. These numbers are generally the lowest yet. Look at Castle, the rarely get that kind of low ratings. While I would have loved to watch live, in some cases, even Hawaii Five O got interrupted by political commercials. Literally. They never got a chance to go to commercial break before some yapping sock puppet with an agenda was in our faces slamming the other yapping sock puppet with an agenda.
2) Sandy. The most populous areas of the country still have major areas that do not have power. This is a hit of hundreds of thousands of people for all the shows, not just Monday night. This is why CBS pre-empted their shows last Monday, it's still carrying over now.
3) Revolution is heading for a hiatus, nobody understands why, but they are headed for one. Revolution also had a second showing on the previous friday, which led into a psychological carry over for that show. People are getting in what they can when they can.

Thanks Darksea , I must admit when I saw the ratings my first thought was the election and sandy . Our TV in the UK has been giving huge coverage to both so I can only imagine how much more of an effect that is having on general ratings in the states.

A lot of people start to work for political campaigns in the last week or so of the election cycle. (We always wonder where these people are 6 months prior to the election.) The night before the election is important for GOTV (get out the vote) ---so it is probable that DVRs were set:
1) to avoid the political ads
and/or
2) because they were working for various political campaigns
or--and probably true for lots of east coasters
3) because they didn't have power in Sandy's aftermath and/or simply had more important things to do like putting their lives back together after having lost everything. Or were helping family members or neighbors who needed assistance.
So yeah--rough week all the way around....
So glad November 7 is here.
