Forgot to mention that I like seeing more Chin this season. "The beginning of the end" I have the same feeling and it's an empty feeling. This show still has a lot to accomplish. I'm afraid the writing hasn't been at the same level as the concept or the cast.

I've liked Cath since day 1, but I don't know if I am going to like her as a member of the team/a regular character. Maybe because she is one-dimensional, as mentioned by someone else. That's OK for someone you only see on scattered episodes and in a secondary role. I too hope that this is only temporary until Kono is back. Or the writers need to come up with some more background/character development for her, beyond her intel and kick-ass skills.
So happy to have Fong back! Now a return of Sang Ming would be delightful.
Enjoyed Darryl Hannah - she was great as the loopy realtor.

I think not having the influence of Roberto Orci since Season 1 shows. I watched 1.23 this week and the difference in writing and character development was amazing. This isn't the same show I loved back in 2010. It's turned into the story of a superhero with his merry men and women.
- This episode to me was meh. Loved Danno's fractured fairytale and the interraction with that little girl - she was something! - Crime of the week - can we please do something other than murder? Please? Plenty of other crimes out there. As usual, the crime had the predictable ending. I'd really like to see something different. - Steve v. Grover - the butting heads come to a climax next week - curious to see the hows and whys. Didn't like Grover trying to use Chin or his veiled threat. Unprofessional. - Mary was Mary - always love her ditzy self - but a baby? Who on Earth would give her a baby with her track record? - Catherine story - well, I liked her as recurring because she was her own person. They were leading up to this all season and PL is finally getting his way by forcing the extra member of 5-0. They really do not write women well on this show and how they've deconstructed her this season is startling. So what happens when the bad guys know they are together? Can Steve be effective if he has to worry about her while trying to do his job? -Glad to see Fong back - but I felt like the scene was thrown in just to appease the fans. Steve going back to welcome him back seemed like an afterthought to me.
I do hope they give Danny more story in the second half of the season. And why haven't we seen a discussion with Steve about his breakup with Gabby?

Yes, the writing has changed a lot since S1 (not for the better IMO). I just finished rewatching S1. Wow it was a great show. Catherine half naked and lots of stunts don't replace strong writing ( to me). It's frustrating because the show had such a foundation to do great things for many years.

I don't think that the fact that Cath is a regular that is the problem. I think it is because now she is no longer her own person. She doesn't have her Navy career anymore, she is living with Steve and she is working for Steve - doesn't even have her own civilian job.

OK--I'm not sure this should go here--moderators -if this needs to be moved to its own thread, please do so.......Has Hawaii 5-0 jumped the shark? Or did it do that 3 years ago? I like Cath as a character and as an occasionally recurring character--the relationship was so perfect in season 1 (hell--what wasn't perfect about season 1??). But making her a member of 5-0 is weird....especially since both Cath and Steve come out of the Navy/military culture---where there is no fraternization between officers-etc. So making Steve her boss -just violates everything they have both done for the past 18 to 20 years or so. This is going to set up all kinds of problems----Steve wanting to protect her from whatever instead of focusing on the task at hand....And as much as I love Steve and Cath as a couple---really the show needs to go where it needs to go--and that is totally to McDanno. I told my husband the night of the season 1 finale that was the whole focus of the show....of course I had several glasses of champagne by then----but really. CBS and Peter Lenkov need to stop being chickens and just let it go.........to where it needs to. McDanno!!!!

Couldn't understand why Steve gave Cath the badge at the beginning . Did he think that was going to stop the bad guy from running or hurting her? I think the idea they were trying to make us buy when Steve first gave her the badge was that he knew she might have to do something that wasn't quite legal and the badge was to protect her from the consequences of that ... immunity and means. I seriously didn't mind him handing her the badge when he thought she might be able to get some information ... on her own ... that would help them find Adam (and Kono since she doesn't seem to have been in touch) and he knew she'd do whatever was necessary. But the last scene was just hokey, having her hand the badge back in front of Danny and Chin so he could tell her to keep it with their blessing. But to be fair, I also have to say I loved "three men and a baby." They all had some really cute scenes with her and she was adorable (however many of her there were ... the one at the end, when Mary was leaving with the baby in her arms, looked like a different baby than the one Steve first saw on his porch).

I actually think they jumped the shark in episode 2 of season 2 when they brought in SWSNBN. Not sure I'd want it to be McDanno in the fanfic sense as I love the bromantic nature of their relationship. AND it would ruin some of my own fantasies. But they've gotten so far away from even the bromance that maybe I wouldn't mind McDanno if it got us more of the two of them together.

I know--the bromance was sooooooooooooooo good and then they just blew it. Even though both Peter Lenkov and Alex O'loughlin have said the central core of the show is the bromance.......why did they let it go by the wayside? The whole magic from season 1 is just gone. It was gone by season 2 episode. I think we just have to accept that season 1 was a wonderful unique thing. And now we just watch a show with no meaning or direction.

I'll type my comments, but honesty, they will sound very much like everyone else's.
* the baby was cute, but Mary Ann should have never been allowed to adopt, ever. Uncle Steve warming up to her was cute. Surprised Danny didn't have any parenting tips to throw in there. And Dani is right, a baby teething on money is just gross.
* The realtor flirting with Danny was funny.
* Grover going to Chin like that was wrong and unprofessional. Glad Chin didn't let him pay and hopefully Steve will never have to find out if Grover will actually show up when he called as back-up. Wouldn't have minded at all if Chin had knocked Grover on his ass just for saying that.
* The crime of the week was okay, but predictable. SportsMom makes a good point; can we have something besides a murder case once in a while?
* Danny's Black Stallion story was great.
* Catherine is hopefully just temporary and needs a different job. I'm pretty sure that impersonating an officer is still an offence in every state. But I'm not holding my breath for PL to wise up and write her character well. I don't see her lasting long, as many shows kill off a character once they get to close/personal, which is exactly what is happening here.
* Glad Fong is back. It would have been nice to have at least gotten a mention of him before now. The writers could have easily had Kono ask about him.

Catherine's presence is way too much for me. As I watch on line I have started skipping her scenes. She was OK as a recurring character. As runner says her character is getting too close and personal. Could she be on her way out?

For me, what was so special about S1 was the *partnership* between Steve and Danny. Leaving aside the bromance, it was the way they had one another's backs that really made it for me. Now it's become an ensemble show, and much as I love Kono and Chin et al., it just doesn't have the same impact for me - it's lost what made it so 'special'.

They don't write female characters well on this show and killing her off would be typical although I'm willing to bet good money that there will be a wedding between Steve and Cath by season's end and then next season she will be dead by mid-season....

I think one of the reasons we are seeing less Danno/Steve is because Scott wants more time to do other things. And we are seeing less Grace because she wants more time to do whatever she needs to do now which has been kept very hush/hush. I feel that is why we are seeing Steve more with Chin and even Grover and why Cath is now on the team. If this gets renewed for another season this is going to be the new normal.
