...but I learned something...did you know that Hawaii is part of the United States? Damn, surrounded by water and not connected...I had no idea. Why do I have no trouble believing that?

As you know, Dani, I'm smiling . Kee's comments do serve as a reminder though that you cannot always tell in print whether or not someone is serious or injecting humor. I did take his advice and google some trivia about the show. You and I are smart blondes, but I learned something...did you know that Hawaii is part of the United States? Damn, surrounded by water and not connected...I had no idea. NO! Really? Damn, I must google me some more factoids too, Blondie! I hope the "injecting humor" part is right, otherwise our sarcasm is being wasted.

Look, maybe I am not explaining this right so let me give you all one example of the Alex obsession that some of these fans have had that became more than annoying to deal with. It's bad enough that a lot of these people would gather together and trash every female actress on that show with the exception of Grace Park because they looked at them as women who were preventing them from being closer to their man, something that I found hilarious as the years went on. Well, do you remember last year when Hawaii was hit by those hurricanes? It was touch-and-go for awhile for those people and one of the more selfish and deranged Alex fans said that she just hoped Alex's property was ok and not everyone else's. Really?? Again, this has nothing to do with Alex O'Loughlin himself because he never said this and I'm sure he'd never even think it but this guy in my opinion has some of the most stupid and insensitive fans around. And I am only talking about people who think like this. I'm not accusing anyone here of having this attitude.

Did she actually say "and not everyone else's" or are you inferring from her words about Alex's property that she didn't care about anyone else's property? A tornado ripped through an area of the town I once lived in and I said to someone "I hope my aunt's home is okay." I wasn't in anyway suggesting that I didn't care about anyone else's home, I was just expressing a more personal concern. If Alex is all they had in common, it's not unusual that the first concern expressed to his other fans might be for him, his family, his home ... but I don't even know who you're talking about and I have no doubt that they weren't saying they didn't care about every other person effected. You're reading things into people's words that they're not saying and calling people names (in this case "selfish and deranged" and "stupid and insensitive") when you don't even know them. You're judging them by a few words that could have easily been one little snippet of this person's comments on what was happening. How do you even know that the same person didn't express other concerns elsewhere? I seriously don't understand why you seem to go looking for information about Alex when you seem to think the people who post comments about and pictures of him are among the lowest of species on the planet. Unless you're just doing it to have someone to ridicule.

Kee, I understand not liking the AOL/anyone obsession because I cringe at some of the comments made on Twitter. But we don't have any obsessive fans here whose sole comments about the whole of the show are "AOL/Steve is so gorgeous". And the comment that originated this whole debate was misinterpreted, as was pointed out, because the poster merely said a little more Steve would have made it better - after posting about several other things about the episode. I grumbled over the lack of Danno in the last episode. I also cleared up that my real beef was that the character's absence wasn't even explained. Do I think every episode has to have tons of Danno in it? No. Would I want a whole episode of just Danno? Scott might be able to carry it off, but no thanks. I want to watch H50, not the Danno Show. And yet, I will comment on his absence or prominence in an episode. Rant if you must at the people whose sole lives depend on their AOL/anyone crush - better yet, ignore them because they'll grow out of it. Maybe even call them out, if their obsession is making them be hurtful to someone else. But don't jump on anyone here who says AOL looked good or did a good job acting. I do the same with Danno/Scott because I like the character. I have 2 grown kids and I still have my private little daydreams about characters. I know grandmas who write fanfic about their crushes. It's normal and healthy. I haven't seen anyone here be unhealthily in crush with any of the characters/actors, so ease back. We actually agree with your views, if you read the comments.

This person was only concerned about him and if he would be ok and when I called her on it she still didn't think she did anything wrong. And I don't go looking for information about Alex. I can't help but read about him while I am reading about the latest news on Five-O. That's where these people hang out. I am not a member on twitter where the real nuts hang out but I read posts on how these people tore apart the female members of Five-O out of jealously. They may not be the lowest of species on the planet but at the same time these people have nothing to be proud of at all.

It's normal and healthy. I haven't seen anyone here be unhealthily in crush with any of the characters/actors, so ease back. We actually agree with your views, if you read the comments. I'm glad you brought that up. While I said in my last post that I was not on twitter I did see many twitter posts from someone who is a member on there and who cut and pasted the comments for others to see. These women (and I'm sorry but that's who was doing it) insulted Lauren German (Lori) when she was on the show and did the same with Michelle Borth. They were obsessed with Alex and could not even accept an actress playing a role to get close to him. That's what happened. These people who are so preoccupied with Alex O'Loughlin have something seriously wrong with them. Does anyone here watch that new show Scorpion? Well, I love Katherine McPhee but that's as far as it goes. I don't collect photos of her or think of her sixteen hours a day. I'm a fan of hers and that's that. You'd have never known I was a fan of hers unless I brought it up now but these people have Alex tattooed on their heads. As far as Danno goes that's a good question. No mention of the guy, nothing. Kind of gets me concerned as to Scott Caan's interest in the show. There's nothing wrong with fan fiction. To be quite honest with you I don't read them anymore because most of the people who write them do not know what a spell checker is and if they did they don't know how to use it. And the grammar is atrocious. I don't expect a professional job but at least try to make it look neat. So, after reading nine or ten of these short stories I told the author that I really appreciated their work and I thanked them for allowing me to read their material. I did not want to make them feel bad. There's one thing I learned when I was reading these stories and it was the use of the term "shipping." I am sure you all know what that is but damned if I can explain it properly because I don't quite understand it. It's kind of like if you want McGarrett and Kono together I would guess you would be called a McKono shipper. Now get ready for this. Some of these borderline psychopaths are McGarrett and Danny "shippers" and they write short stories of them being, well, being with each other, if you see what I mean. I did not understand that at all. Where on the show is anything like THAT implied? But some of these Alex fans twisted it around and that's what happened. Whatever happened to just watching the show and enjoying it? I waited years for this show to be put back on the air and these people have just ruined it.

Kee, I hear you. With social media, you discover that your opinion about anything is not universally accepted and that not only are there differing opinions, but there's people coming up with things you never imagined. If you join a fandom you have to accept people are not always going to agree with you, that they won't act the way you would, that they will see things differently and that they will say/do/write about things you regard as wrong. You either accept it and ignore it or you leave the fandom. You have to be prepared to be annoyed by other fans. There will be obsessed fans who take liking a character/actor too far. Many are young and don't have the best social skills. Same with fanfic writers. They haven't yet developed good spelling/grammar and writing skiils - hell, even "real" writers need editors to show them where they're going wrong. But at least they're being creative and they may develop real skills. Either give them a chance or only read stuff by authors you like. The shipping can be annoying when you don't agree with it. The slash shipping/fanfic may not be your cup of tea, but it makes sense to others. You can't say it's right or wrong because everyone's views are different. You can't tell people a pairing is not possible because the show never implied it. People see what they want to see and make what they want of a show, and they will shout it out loud to everyone in the hopes that it will come true. But the point here is, none of the people in the Smart Table have ever posted anything that makes me believe they're one of those crazed fans you encounter outside. Yes we have our discussions about characters and actors we dislike, we probably go a bit overboard sometimes, but if it's done fairly civilly within the relative privacy of the forum, unless anyone gets really obnoxious and offensive and has to be called out by the moderator, I think it's OK. Going on twitter to an actor/producer's account and tweeting "you suck" or "I hate you" or something along those lines,is immature and rude. It also provides absolutely no value and makes the poster be dismissed because without a real reason for your vitriol, no one takes you seriously (unless they consider you a stalker or some sort of risk and then the FBI's knocking at your door). So, while I understand and agree with what you're saying, I also can't agree with you jumping on anyone for anything that's been posted here. Had there been anything offensive posted, the poster would have been called out by others. It's a nice bunch of people here. We'll probably disagree on most everything, but that's why we're here, to discuss our views and defend them. Just take your time when you read a post and don't equate the poster with someone who posted something somewhere else.

Just take your time when you read a post and don't equate the poster with someone who posted something somewhere else. Hmmm, I see what you mean Dannos Dani. You know, I never once thought that my opinion on this show is the one and only opinion that is right about it and at the same time dismissing everything else. And you're right, people come up with things that I would never expect and there has been many times I have to question if I am watching the same show as they are because their views were so out there. This is how I view Five-O. I watch the show every week and I enjoy it and that's that. I'm not on twitter and I am not on facebook. I don't like twitter because of all the rude comments made towards celebrities and sports stars and it's really not something I want to be a part of. Facebook? Nope. I have better things to do than checking my page twenty times a day like some people I know in real life do. I do like getting new Five-O information and hearing about what others think about the show and that's why I am here. As far as fan fiction goes I don't really have any favorite authors because it has been four years since I read any fan fiction. The stories I read were that bad and that's why I never went back. But that is not to say I won't ever read fan fiction again. If you or anyone in here knows of a good writer and you enjoyed his or hers contributions please let me know. I'm open to that. I understand that the shipping of characters is just someone's imagination and granted there could be a Kono and Steve pairing (who knows?) but Steve and Danny? Where the hell did that come from? That annoyed me not because that type of a relationship but because someone had to twist their friendship around to something that is as far from the truth as possible. I have a question before I end this. What's this Smart Table you mentioned? Dannos Dani, after reading your post here I thought about it and I have to admit you are right. This is a nice group of people here. What happened was that I brought my attitude from someplace else over to this board because the people I have been dealing with all this time are (1) the twitter posters (2) have no idea what is going on in the show except the knowledge of what Alex is wearing and how his hair looks and OH MY! if he has his shirt off it's a celebration as big as Christmas and (3) disregard for Peter Lenkov and the writers because they can do a better job then they can any day of the week. From now on I will base my posts on the poster right here and not the memories of someone who posted someplace else. Thank you.

When you look at the main page of this board, the threads about the episodes are under a heading called "The Smart Table: Hawaii Five-0 Episodes" ... like others are named after other 5-0 places and things.

Hi Kee I agree with what you said in your last post. Especially about twitter people can be very rude. We are a nice group of people who are all interested in Five 0 and like to talk about it. So now that you know that Welcome to this forum and look forward to your posts about each episode and anything else you would like to talk about.
