The Good: * S7 has started * Chin and Sarah, possible adoption * Minimal Jerry * Good case for Five-0 to work * A new governor, one that we might actually see once in a while * Jack Lord tie-in (although it wasn't very good quality) * Cargument! * 'Auntie' Kono * The ending. Didn't see that ending coming. But they had to make a plausible ending with chasing Orangutan-Man. * Kudos to the stunt man who planed Orangutan-Man. Awesome skills! * At least Steve went home, like he should have. Gotta at least give him credit for that.
The bad: * Cargument... but only listed here because it was overly predictable. * Seriously, Steve?! You send Grover outside while you check the creepy house alone? * Oh, way to go, Steve. Let's touch the evidence and smudge any fingerprints.\ * Oh, and let's go out the unlocked back door while we're at it. So are we supposed to ass-ume there is now someone after Steve?
The ugly: Nothing to qualify as 'ugly'.

News about cameo of Jack Lord. Hawaii Five-0 did the impossible in its seventh season premiere by uniting the old Steve McGarrett with the new. The CBS drama brought original McGarrett actor Jack Lord to life through the magic of CGI. Lord, who died in 1998, portrayed the Five-O hero for 12 seasons on the namesake series, which ran from 1968-1980 on CBS. In the season 7 premiere, Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) gets trusted advice from Lord — the character was called Jack Lord in the script — a retired cop who offers words of wisdom about what it means to wear the badge. It’s a scene that’s been years in the making. “I originally conceived of the idea — a scene between McGarrett and Jack Lord — to be the final scene in the series, but realized last year that the end was nowhere near and if I wanted to be the first to do something like this, I better commit soon,” executive producer Peter M. Lenkov tells EW exclusively. “Thankfully, the conversation between the two men fit perfectly with the theme of season 7.” So, how did Hawaii Five-0 pull it off? First, they needed to get permission from Lord’s estate. “His estate is run by a bank, which asked to read the script pages,” says Lenkov, who wrote the premiere with executive producer Eric Guggenheim. “I actually approached them a few years ago and they were open to the idea. It wasn’t until June that we officially submitted the pages and they signed off. It wasn’t too difficult since they knew this was going to honor his legacy.” Next came the difficult part: Actually bringing Jack Lord to life. A team from Counter Punch Studios began by creating a CG version of Jack Lord’s face, working in tandem with Picture Shop visual effects to create a lifelike CG character and adding skin textures based on images of Jack Lord from the final season of the original series. Actor Ken Matepi was cast as the body double for his similar features to Jack Lord. Picture Shop’s Senior VFX Supervisor Adam Avitabile then worked with the makeup department to place small tracking markers on Matepi’s face that allowed the artists to analyze and match his facial movements precisely. “Bringing the iconic Jack Lord back to life digitally was a challenging endeavor, to say the least,” Avitabile says. “This kind of thing is rarely attempted on network television. Our incredibly talented team of artists worked tirelessly to bring drama and emotion to such a fun and unique project.” Once they filmed the actual scene, the footage was sent to Counter Punch Studios to animate the CG Jack Lord face, referencing both the performance of the actor and archived interviews with Jack Lord. Voice-over actor Cam Clarke then voiced the role for the episode. “This was a very well-planned combination of many elements and many departments — CG, a voice actor, a body double and an actor for Alex to play off of,” Lenkov says, “Not to mention a huge amount of man hours, editing and finessing every moment to do our best to make you believe Jack Lord is in that room with Alex.” www.ew.com/article/2016/09/23/hawaii-five-0-jack-lord-cameo

Great episode. Very interesting case of serial killers. And this is not the end, because this arc will be continued in next episodes. Last 15 minutes was insane, awesome chasing scenes. Just it was epic! McDanno scenes was great, besides conversation in the car (the second part of the conversation). The rest their scene I like it a lot. Abby now is in HPD, like I said before it is good desicion, because actress has regular role in another show, so she will not have much time. Regarding Jack Lord, it was great tribute to the original series. Though his look was not great, but as we know it is television, so they could not do it with such grand scale like in the movies, because they had a much smaller budget.

You all have said the things I've been thinking since last night. A couple of small things......
Jack Lord's hair should have been a lot grayer.....his hair was quite brown. He said he has been married 45 years----
Alex's wedding ring in the chapel scene with Jack Lord. Oopsies.

The first time I watched this episode last night, I was freaked out by the guy in the chapel. I though he might be another serial killer. I watched it again this morning and I realized it was Jack Lord, giving Steve advice during this time in his life when he is struggling with everything that has happened to him. The advice was meaningful and when he called him "Son," my heart was moved. His haircut and being married 45 years to his wife were the biggest clues that older Steve was talking to his younger self. It was a brilliant decision to create a digitized Steve McGarrett from the original series. The rest of the episode was too brutal and gruesome for me but I watched it with one eye open. I really wanted Catherine to be waiting for Steve in the kitchen, instead of finding an old chess piece on the counter. I feel like Danny is a character that keeps stepping in and out of the show. I am beginning to not care if he is on the show. I really love the character of Danny but he is absent so much that his story line is weakening for me. His parts are so disjointed and that makes Grace appear less often as Danny's daughter. How about some closure with Rachel? And who is Danny going to date this season? What about the rest of the items in the champ box? What about Wo-Fat's Dad? Can we please get some answers soon? Lots of lose ends in 5-0. A good start to begin season 7. This is Alex's 7th year with CBS. I hope it is not the last season for Hawaii 5-0.

I am not sure if I saw a wedding ring on Steve while he was in the chapel. I thought it was a tan line from the actual wedding ring he wears in his personal life.

Thought the Jack Lord guy was a bit creepy. Interesting that Steve admits Cath was the love of his life. Liked the new governor.

Thought the Jack Lord guy was a bit creepy. Interesting that Steve admits Cath was the love of his life. Liked the new governor. It thought the same, CookieJar. So much has been said about Jack Lord being CGed into the S7 premier, but very little has been mentioned as to what they talked about. Didn't notice that Alex had worn his ring in the scene,... or the tan line from it, or whatever.

After finally being able to watch it, I must say I really liked most of the season premiere.
I was surprised to see Steve chasing the guy and wasn't surprised to see him collapse. But hey, TV is entertainment so I don't expect reality, and Steve being a cartoon superhero is OK. I like seeing him chase the bad guys.
The chapel scene was just creepy. I thought the guy was a dead body, and when they showed him the image didn't improve much. It was a talking zombie. Then it dawned on me it was supposed to be Jack Lord. Please don't ever do that again. I agree with everyone, it was major creepy. It may have been meant as a great homage but yuk. CGI technology just isn't up there yet for real people. And this one was worst than Paul Walker's CGI. Did Jack Lord ever sound like that? He certainly never looked like the walking dead. Horrible. Luckily the rest of the show was so much better.
Insane wheelchair race - although I was saddened to see Steve kick Danno's chair, and even more saddened to see how Danno won the race. Cheap moves that just took all the fun out of it.
Steve and Danno bantering may be getting old for some people, but I'm still enjoying it. I do agree with Danno, though - Steve should respect Danno's liver.
Nice to see everyone back, even if only for a couple of screen shots.
Chin speaks pretty good Spanish and his accent is not terrible at all.
Loved the parkour, although maybe a bit too long for some people. Grover didn't see that coming? You didn't expect the guy to finally miss after running around for like 20 minutes?? The law of averages is against you.
Great twisty ending (although when Steve found the chess piece in his home, I almost expected Creepy Jack to be sitting there).

....And who is Danny going to date this season? ... Oh, that made me laugh. Isn't he still technically with what's-her-name the jailbait? I do agree with most of what you said about Danno's character though. Grover has now totally become Danno and it's like we don't need Danno any more. Too bad, he was such a great character.
