Wow. Just, wow. As Steve has been known to say. So disappointing for us viewers! Not surprised that both Parks and Kim felt they deserved equal pay. I happen to agree with them and am disappointed they didn't get it. Actually, I'm rather surprised that Caan gets equal pay already. Considering he isn't there but half the time, that doesn't seem fair to O'Loughlin at all. Found an article that states casting is underway to fill the character of 'Tani' that will join the team and basically replace Kono. And that CBS/writers will be taking advantage of the S7 finale that showed her on a plane, as well as Chin Ho's previous offer to work in San Francisco. I'll have to watch the S8 premier to see if I can stomach the rest of the season. Again, so disappointing. Just an FYI, pay is usually "per episode." So if Scott makes the same per episode as Alex (and it doesn't actually say he does because 10-15% less could be 10% less than Scott and 15% less than Alex), he would still make less than Alex over the course of a season since he appears in five fewer episodes. Thank you for the clarification, Katlyn. I was indeed omitting the 'per episode' part. That said, I still wish Caan would show up and do the job he signed on for. Hopefully Parks and DDK's departures will make that happen.

I knew about Grace most likely leaving....did not know about DDK possibly leaving. Sure--I knew about the San Francisco plot line---but, didn't think that would amount to anything. So--WOW--did not see a double whammy like this coming. And doesn't filming start on July 6? I thought I saw that somewhere. Will be interesting to see what they come up with for story lines this year. Hoping Jerry doesn't fill in too many of the holes in the acting line-up. Not a fan of Jerry, although I don't mind him in small doses. So perhaps this explains why they would give him a badge... 'cause nothing else does. Your're right, Blondie-Lana,... definitely not enough Pepto!

I am seeing more and more on the net about why Grace and Daniel left. I love this show. This is my weekly escape.
I will miss them.I thought they did a great job. I mean no disrespect to anyone in this post.I think many of the comments are unfair.
I have worked for 48 years and my experience is that there is a difference in compensation depending upon your role, responsibility and time you invest in a position.
What I don't understand is why people feel they should be paid as much as AOL. Alex has consistently more work, more lines, more scenes, more physical labor. That deserves somewhat more compensation.

Message from Daniel about his leaving A MESSAGE TO MY FANS ABOUT HAWAII 5-0 Sorry for the delay in hearing from me, but like you I’m sure, my July 4th holiday was busy with friends and family. I’m back now and didn’t want to let any more time go by without reaching out. By now many of you have heard the news, and I’m sad to say it is true. I will not be returning to Hawaii Five-0 when production starts next week. Though I made myself available to come back, CBS and I weren’t able to agree to terms on a new contract, so I made the difficult choice not to continue. As sad as it feels to say goodbye, what I feel most is gratitude. I am so deeply thankful to our crew, writers and everyone associated with the show – and especially the cast, who have been nothing but supportive through this entire process. They and the crew have been my second family for seven years and I wish them nothing but success for season 8 - and beyond. I also want to say to thank you to Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and everyone at CBS. I will always be grateful for their faith in me to bring Chin Ho Kelly to life. As an Asian American actor, I know first-hand how difficult it is to find opportunities at all, let alone play a well developed, three dimensional character like Chin Ho. I will miss him sincerely. What made him even more special is that he was a representative of a place my family and I so dearly love. It has been nothing short of an honor to be able to showcase the beauty and people of Hawaii every week, and I couldn’t be prouder to call these islands home. To my local community, mahalo nui loa. Finally, I want to thank all of you, the fans. I’ve read your messages and I can’t tell you how much they’ve meant to me. I never, ever forget that YOU are the reason Hawaii Five-0 is the success that it is, and interacting with you online and in person around the world(!) has been one of the greatest joys of this entire experience. I’m so sorry we won’t be continuing this journey together. I’ll end by saying that though transitions can be difficult, I encourage us all to look beyond the disappointment of this moment to the bigger picture. The path to equality is rarely easy. But I hope you can be excited for the future. I am. 5-0 continues on after one of its strongest seasons. I’ve got new acting projects on the horizon, and as a producer, my company, 3AD, has its first show, THE GOOD DOCTOR, set to air this fall on ABC. I hope you’ll tune in. There’s a lot to look forward to and I’ll be sure to share it with you. In the meantime, Aloha, thank you and Happy Independence Day! -DDK www.facebook.com/136577846385452/photos/a.141032709273299.23386.136577846385452/1500305656679324/?type=3&theater

Like most (all) here, I've been with the show since S1E1. The core four and their chemistry make the show for me. For this reason, I've been recalcitrant to each attempt to add a character to the team. Grover seems to be the only one I actually like, probably because he's essentially Danno in disguise.
The loss of Chin and Kono will be hard to take. In many ways, it will be a completely different show. Regardless, I'm willing to give it a solid try.
I'll especially miss Chin. DDK is an incredible actor and Chin is a well developed character with a solid back story. While Steve is clearly in command, I think chin has become the heart and soul of the team.

Sad that this is happening to one of my favorite shows ever. The core 4 is what made the show for me back in 2010. I have seen some postings on FB that the 2 Asian actors quit the show because TPTB won't pay them as much as Alex and Scott--the white actors. Trying to make it a racial thing....I hope in my heart of hearts that is not true. Although-- I guess nothing would surprise me anymore. A year or so ago I saw a posting that even if Alex retires at the end of season 8--and I'm guessing that Scott goes with him...that the show would continue. Without any of the core 4 returning for a (doubtful IMO) 9th season--I can't see it being the same show at all.....
I think I am starting to ramble...better stop while I'm ahead.

I so agree with you about the core 4 being what made the show when it was introduced in 2010. Like so many other shows, people are added and people leave and regardless what anyone says on FB, I doubt the departures have anything to do with race ... but, of course, people will always make up whatever suits their position. We all knew, when the show first started that everyone had a standard seven year contract. It's been confirmed by both Alex and Scott that they renegotiated their contracts before the seven years were up. I never heard that Grace or DDK had, so the fact that both of them were trying to negotiate new contracts for S8 makes sense. If the reports are true that they both wanted to be paid as much as Alex and Scott (and unless Scott renegotiated a helluva deal, he started out at 80% of Alex's salary and I doubt that he's ever been paid as much as Alex), I think jackiee said it best: "Alex has consistently more work, more lines, more scenes, more physical labor. That deserves somewhat more compensation." No one, including Scott, is worth as much to the show as Alex is. I guess the good news is that Alex has backed off his statement that S8 would be his last. Since he's physically feeling better (yea, stem cells!), he's said he could see himself going beyond S8. If Scott leaves but they introduce a couple new characters during the season that could sustain the team, I could see the show going into a 9th season. But I agree with you that if both Alex and Scott were to depart, it would be difficult to hold the audience who felt that the core 4 was what made the show.

Here is more. Interesting fragment about Grace: Park, meanwhile, was said to have sought a deal for less than half of a full season’s worth of episodes, which would have been a financially challenging prospect for the network at the salary that she sought.

I could help laughing at this statement from the Variety article: "“Hawaii Five-0” commanded a lucrative $2 million-per-episode cable syndication deal with TNT in 2011, although the show turned out to be a lackluster performer for the cabler." OF COURSE it was a lackluster performer! Did they ever try showing it at a time that wasn't 1 a.m. or later (at least in the Eastern U.S.). Did they ever show it in prime time? Did they ever try a Saturday afternoon marathon like USA did with NCIS? NCIS became a major hit on CBS only after they started showing it in syndication on the USA network. That's what made people want to see the first-run shows on CBS. H5-0 has not performed well on TNT because TNT never gave it the chance to!
Sorry for the rant ... now back to our regularly scheduled subject!

I don't want to get too much into this. All I want to say is DDK and Grace's contracts were ready for renewal. They could not agree on terms with CBS their choice to leave. Lets move on I don't think anyone is saying they can't move on. But when someone finds something new out there that they want to share, it's logical to presume that others might want to read it even if some have had enough of the subject. People have invested seven years in the show and DDK and Grace were a big part of those seven years. I totally agree with you that it was their choice to reject the offers put in front of them. But in acknowledging that choice and then telling people to move on, you're sort of saying you don't want to give people who still want to talk about it the choice to actually do that. It's all about choice ... DDK and Grace making the choice not to sign ... fans of the show making the choice to still read and talk about it ... and your choice not to do that any more.
