See article posted below for recent interview with Lauren German re: H50. Wonder if we will ever know what really went on behind the scenes regarding the LG debacle and ultimate departure...and she is still volunteering to come back, if asked - yikes Let's just hope she is waaaay too busy with her new show! Lauren German Misses Days in Hawaii By Rick Bentley/Fresnobeehive.com July 25, 2012 12:21 PM Many of you may recognize Lauren German, star of the new NBC series "Chicago Fire," from the time she spent on "Hawaii Five-O" playing Lori Weston. Her departure from that CBS crime drama was almost as surprising as her being invited to stay past the original four-episode arc for which she was originally hired.
"They decided to bring me on as the next detective. I don't know anything about the weird politics that went on but I think there were lot of women who didn't like my character," German says.
It looked like her character was being added as a potential love interest for series star Alex O'Loughlin. That made some viewers a little jealous.
The actress loved being on the show and remains close friends with the cast. German would reprise her role if asked. If things go well for German's new series, there won't be time to head back to the islands to be on the CBS show.
"But, if 'Five-O' is still on when this show ends, I would hope they would have me come back," German says.
Others of you may recognize German for a couple of horror films she made. German was one of the few survivors of "Hostel II" but didn't have the same luck with the 2003 remake of 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Her death scene in that movie is considered a horror classic as the camera starts in front of her, goes through the hole in hear head and continues 300 yards into a cornfield. The gunshot is self inflicted. If you want to know where she was hiding the gun, you'll have to rent the movieBelow is the funny part - the one reader who left a comment had this to say: No offense Lauren, but I definitely wouldn't want you back on Hawaii 5-0, thank you very much. The character, Lori, didn't add anything to the team; she was wooden and completely devoid of any personality. The writers made a mistake there. As for her as a'potential love interest' for McGarrett, the two of them didn't have any chemistry and often her scenes with him were uncomfortable to watch. What really baffled me was that in interviews, Lauren always came across as a funny, witty, charming person, but NONE of that ever came out on the show....Lori Weston was a boring, often irritating presence and just didn't fit in on the show.Don't agree with the part about how LG came off in real life, but the part about her role on H50 is pretty accurate.

A. "Wierd politics and Women who didn't like my character" I think she means people who want to see actual acting B. "potential love interest for Alex O'Loughlin" I think Malia Jones may have something to say about that. (It was for Steve ) Oh, but the character was not written that way according to Peter. Hmm? C.Made some viewers jealous Funny how many seem to like the Catherine character and aren't jealous of her. D. "But, if 'Five-O' is still on when this show ends, I would hope they would have me come back," So she thinks her new show won't last.
Wow this woman seems very bitter and her true colors are showing loud and clear. And in case anyone is wondering, she pulls the gun out from her Vajaja.

She was initially hired for 12 episodes...if I am remembering correctly. What's this about a 4 episode story arc?
Weird.

Weird. Nope she was hired for 4 episodes initially and then when they were able to extend Terry O'Quinn's contract from 6 to 10 episode they add an additional 12 episodes to her contract. She specifically mentioned the 12 episode extension at SOTB last year, which is why there was a big discussion on the board as to whether her comment meant she was going to be on for total of 12 episode or if it was an additional 12 episodes to give her a total of 16. As we now know it was an additional 12 . Of course, the problem was that all of this occurred before SOTB last year so it was done before her first episode ever aired and from there it was all down hill once the audience got a taste of her. What I don't get is she is now on a new show, shouldn't the focus of her interviews be about that and not her old show? I mean if you were Dick Wolf and NBC how would you feel about one of your workers going on and on about how she would love to go back to her old show on a completely different network, instead of hyping and getting people excited about the show currently giving her a pay check? Can anyone say clueless??

can't for the life of me understand why she's talking about H5-0 anyway, technically she should be promoting her OWN show.

ok, didn't read the article, so my first post was just based on the title of the thread, having read the article, bitter much?? seriously, may need to find this woman and tell her that i personally like seeing an actors/actress who can actually ACT, not have constipation face every time she's on screen.

Lauren, honey, your character was crappily written and your performance left a lot to be desired. Quit blaming "weird politics" and non-existent jealous female viewers and learn to deal with your own shortcomings.

I agree with all of you!! Clueless seems to be putting it mildly! She sounds like she's forgotten she's supposed to be promoting her new show. I really hope she doesn't get her 'wish' of coming back She doesn't come across well at all, does she Fiona

Kinda offended about that article. Can't talk for all women but I for one was not jealous. Her character from the get go made very little sense. And she was definitely miscast. Perhaps another actress could have pulled off being Lori Weston but not her. She should have just kept her mouth shut about her role on Hawaii five- o and just left it to she misses the cast and crew but is happy to have another show. Also, didn't know she was only hired for 4 episodes and then 12 added. So who was the idiot who thought it was a good idea to increase her episodes? Don't answer that I think I know who. Was she so fantastic in the first 4 episodes? NO! What were they thinking? Please PL, don't ever invite her back.

In case anyone is interested here are some more of the comments that have been posted with the original article: "I agree with "Hunny Bee". I don't think it was so much the jealousy of female fans, but more her acting performance being very wooden performance. I did not find character very appealing, but just "DULL." She had absolutely no chemistry with Alex O or with any of the other characters either. I just cannot figure out why it took show's producers so long to realize what a mistake they made in casting her for the role."
"I really did not like Lori Weston character she was boring, dull she took time away from other cast member no offense to Lauren German.I thought when she was on the show she put as female version of steve mcgarrett not even close to it no action, fight skill like kono she more googe for mcgarrett like a high school girl chase after her crush don' t think she should never come back to the show she bring the rating down again like she did the first time when she was there."
"Lauren, again no offence, but I agree with hunny bee. You were wooden and very stiff with no personality. You had zero chemistry with McGarrett. Yes, Lori Weston was boring and you didn't flow with the "team". Your character didn't fit at all on the show."
I particularly like this one: "It's not so much that female fans were jealous of Lori as that she was initially presented as what is known in fandom as a "Mary Sue" - a paragon of female perfection who excels at everything, bringing her Yoda-esque wisdom in all things to bear on the hapless hero(es) of the piece before bedding said hero(es). The Mary Sue is a character whose express purpose is to give the WRITER of the piece a way of inserting herself into the story, and Mary Sues are pretty much universally reviled.Someone made the ill-conceived decision to hang the "McG love interest" millstone around Lori Weston's neck from the get-go and that decision colored how she was developed (and perceived) from that point on.
Then they added insult to injury with fandom and used her in place of Scott Caan's Danno (or in place of Alex O'Loughlin's Steve in one off-kilter "cargument") in scenes that were traditionally Steve & Danno buddy scenes, and that was messing with a relationship that is pretty much sacrosanct - the bromance.
Unlike the "core four," who were all given good backstory and skillset sketches starting with the pilot, Lori's presentation and development was haphazard at best, with newly-touted superlative skills tossed in at random (and then disproved whenever it was decided Lori needed to be "rescued" by McGarrett in several laughably awkward and bizarre scenes).
By the time Lori started developing a quirky, fun personality and a more consistent set of skills, she was on her way off the canvas. There was only so much Lauren could do with what she was given, and I'm sure it must have been maddening for her, especially with her character often being wedged between the show's de facto "supercouple," if we use the Daytime concept to describe Steve & Danno's partnership and bromance."
"What is this girl smoking? We fans did not like her because she was terrible on H50. She did not fit in at all.The woman fans were not jealous of her. If that were the case we would not like any of the woman brought on to be a love interest for Steve. Michelle Borth plays his love interest on the show and the fans seem to be just fine with it.Michelle fits in with the cast, unlike LG! This interview just makes me relieved even more that she is no longer on my favorite show. "
"I don't think people hated Lori because they were jealous. They hated her because the character completely sucked. It was the writer's fault. It's a shame because Lauren German is a very likable person. I'm looking forward to seeing her on Chicago Fire. Hopefully the writers over there give her the opportunity to show viewers how talented she is."
