Just wanted to let every one know that preliminarily it appears the return of Dancing with the Stars has catapulted Castle up into first place last night with Hawaii Five-0 coming in Second and Smash coming in third place for the night. I will have the full ratings numbers later today, so check back.

Here are the numbers for last night's episode. Just for the record DWTS kicked off last night which I am sure is what helped Castle out in the overall viewer category and most likely improved it's Demo number too.
CBS Hawaii Five-0 2.5 (18-49 Demo) 9.14(Million Viewers) ABC Castle 2.4(18-49 Demo) 11.86(Million Viewers) NBC Smash 2.3(18-49 Demo) 6.67(Million Viewers)

Thanks Diana, looks like Castle got a very good lead in from Dancing With The Stars. Thats quite a big jump on their last few episodes.

Is is strange that they already committed to the show, even though it's like 3 months early, and the ratings are so-so? Let's face it, they weren't stellar, then they went up and then down again. We always have reasons for why they're more down than they should be in our opinion, but would CBS really care about those reasons? Is it because they have so much money vested in it, and the ratings weren't great but not dismal either?/color]

It's not terribly strange, in that the networks will often wait to renew freshman series, which H50 was last year, while they weigh the odds of better success with next season's startups. It made it to the 2nd year without having been a runaway hit, and this year's ratings haven't tanked (the way we were sort of expecting and dreading.) It's not suffering any more at the hands of Castle than it did last year. I suspect they can still cancel a show any time they feel like it, but they need to establish a baseline of sure things so they can figure out what slots they need to fill with new stuff.
I'm curious about the Dancing With the Stars/Castle ratings dynamic, since DWTS didn't open as well as last year. Does Castle doing well mean that people watched something else for the first half of DWTS and then tuned in?

Does Castle doing well mean that people watched something else for the first half of DWTS and then tuned in? What they mean about DWTS being down is instead of pulling down 20 million viewers they pulled down 18 million instead. Which basically equal to all the viewers of H50 and Castle combined.

Here are Canadian ratings for Mar. 19, courtesy of Spoiler TV www.spoilertv.com/2012/03/canadian-ratings-march-18-to-25-missing.html. I hope nobody minds that I occasionally post these. I thought my fellow Canucks on the board might like to know how our country views our favourite show. Two two-hour reality shows crowded comedies off CTV and CTV Two's usual prime time grid. Mike & Molly (866,000) was bounced to CTV at 7. Two and a Half Men managed a strong 1,119,000 even though it aired at 7:30 on CTV instead of its usual home, CTV Two. CTV got back in simulcast synch at 8 with The Voice, which was heard by 1,362,000. Castle followed with 1,720,000. Back at 8, CTV Two waltzed off with an impressive 1,321,000 with the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars. NBC renewed Smash for a second season this week, but CTV gave it no such vote of confidence, bouncing it over to CTV Two where 467,000 found it. Global’s House repeated to 751,000 at 8 o’clock. A rerun of NCIS: Los Angeles drew 767,000 leading into a new Hawaii FIVE-0 (1,754,000). With all those other talent shows on the schedule, City’s Canada’s Got Talent slid to 346,000 overnight viewers for a results show. How I Met Your Mother bounced up to 728,000 and 2 Broke Girls did a rich 840,000. Alcatraz drew a devilish 666,000 at 10. A Mr. D repeat drew 506,000 on CBC, with soon-to-end Little Mosque down to 207,000. The Dragon’s Den spin-off The Big Decision managed 409,000 at 10. A Canada/Denmark women’s curling tilt did 639,000 on TSN. A Leafs/Bruins game scored 555,000 on Sportsnet Ontario. Canucks drew a further 428,000 vs. Minnie on Sportsnet Pacific. Montreal and Boston drew 589,000 NHL fans to TSN; San Jose and Edmonton scored 495,000 for TSN’s late game. Score pinned 309,000 with WWE Raw. Canada’s Greatest Know-It-All drew 295,000 at Discovery. Pretty Little Liars did 261,000 at MuchMusic, honest. Midsomer Murders killed on TVO (260,000).
