CBS Buys Medical Drama From ‘Hawaii Five-0′ Showrunner Peter LenkovEXCLUSIVE: What if Steve Jobs had built a cancer research center before his death… CBS has put in development an untitled medical drama from Hawaii Five-O executive producer/showrunner Peter Lenkov and feature scribe Jason Dean Hall (Spread). Written by Hall, the drama centers on an iconic tech billionaire who discovers he has terminal cancer and responds by building a hospital and recruiting a team of the world’s best doctors to take on his disease—but he soon comes to learn that his salvation lies in saving others. Lenkov will executive produce, with Hall serving as co-exec producer. CBS TV Studios, where Lenkov is under a three-year overall deal, will produce. Lenkov, who co-wrote CBS/CBS TV Studios’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot with Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci, is with CAA and Jeff Finkelstein. Hall, who recently wrote the upcoming Robert Luketic-directed thriller Paranoia, is with CAA, Management 360 and Darren Trattner. Source: Deadline

Now, this doesn't mean he's done with 5-0. This doesn't even mean that the show will get picked up. But I wonder how this will affect 5-0 if it does? How will PL be able to balance the two shows?

No matter what happens with the new series, it's in both Peter's and CBS' best interests to keep H5O successful, at least for a few more years. I'm sure it will be worked out.

Maybe he'll let someone else help out with H50. Fresh ideas couldn't hurt.

Actually, my first thought was that maybe this new show would be so successful that PL would be so busy that Kurtzman and Orci would have to come back to help produce HF-0 again.
Too much to hope for? Maybe, but I would love to see a return to the greatness of S1.

According to the article over on Hawaii Five-0 Undercover, PL's contract with the show runs out this year. So who knows what will happen. PL has done a good job but has dropped the ball here and there so maybe a new producer wouldn't be so bad in the long run.

It's even possible that TPTB might not care to encourage him to keep on with H50.

For some reason, I just don't see PL walking away from H50 completely. I get the impression that it's kind of like his baby, you know? We'll see what happens, I just don't see him leaving totally. Like Runner said, maybe this will mean Kurtzman and Orci will come back to have a more active role in the show? We'll see.

Many fans of the original series wanted PL gone. I wonder what this series would be like without him. Personally I want him gone because his storyline is not that interesting, it's full of cliches and plotholes and it's so predicable (Kono being an undercover, saw that miles away. Plus he made a bad decision that messed season 2 up (Lori and killing Maila off).
I really don't trust PL anymore, they should bring in a new producer.

That's a really tough thing. Even with the mistakes he's made, I don't know if a new producer is the right solution. Again, I think it would be cool for Kurtzman and Orci to come back and be more involved with the show again. But clearly none of us have any control or say in any of this. Anyways, PL already tweeted he's not leaving the show. So...I don't know what else there is to say.

I can only see PL leaving if the other show becomes a huge success and strokes his huge ego more than HF-0 does. But I agree with you, MF, that he wouldn't want to just walk away, at least not completely. He wants to continue to be known for his role in producing HF-0. I mean, the guy tweeted a picture of a flack vest monogrammed with his name on it, so it matches those of the Fab4. That's a lot of ego right there.

Since S2 was so bad compared to S1, I really wonder how much input Orci had. How involved was Kurtzman? You never really hear about him. Blondie, your "fairy dust" comment is right on - I'm just hoping they get back some of the S1 magic.

For whatever it's worth, here's a quote from AOL on the new season: "We're six episodes in (production) and I feel like this is our best season so far. It really feels silky smooth."
Sure sounds promising to me. We'll see in 4 days!
