Musicfreak, I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to see you on here after seeing and hearing all the news about New York. We still have some others that I hope we will hear from real soon. I had no idea that Canada was being affected that much by Sandy so I'm glad to know that you all are okay. If we can keep getting everybody to check in one by one, then I'll relax. We had enough wind to blow off siding and some lost electricity for a minute here in Indiana. I believe Ohio got it worse than we did. I wonder how Dianno is. I am fine we had had some wind and rain last night, but our power didn't even blip once. The worst thing we had is that I awoke to some snow coming down this morning which caused all the commuters to panic and decide to go to 10 mph on the interstate during my commute to work, even though ground temperature is warm enough that everything was melting on contact. All and all compared to what the east coast had, we just had some minor inconvenience here. Though I did hear that up north in Cleveland they were having some issues with some major waves hitting the shores of Lake Erie, due to the high winds.

It looks like New York & New Jersey got the worst of it. Hoping all our members from that area are ok. Probably still without power...

Catching up here today, glad to hear people are okay so far. Hope nycgal checks in soon, especially, because she's right down there, and anybody else who's out there without power - when you get back and read these things, know that we were thinking about you and hoping you're all right.

Hey guys, greetings from the Connecticut shoreline. We are 1 mile from uttter devastation but we just lost a few tree limbs. Still consider ourselves lucky. Hope power is back by Monday! Of course, a cold shower is usually good after "super seal"!

Hello to all my H50 friends! I managed to survive Sandy although I can honestly say I have never lived through anything like this before. For anyone who is interested, here are some details of my experience from the vantage point of my midtown Manhattan apartment. Lost power on Monday night around 8:45pm and it did not turn back on until Sat....4 long days and 5 long nights of no power, water or cell service. I live on the 15th floor so to get out of my building I had to walk down 15 flights of stairs. Luckily for me I had plenty of food, I had filled my bath tub with water to flush the toilet, bought additional batteries and candles and still had land line phone service. I had to dig out my old Trimline phone from the 80's and plug it in and thankfully it worked. Since I live by myself, being able to talk to my family and friends on the phone was truly a sanity saver for me. My neighbors, an elderly couple in their late seventies, who I checked on regularly, could not really handle the no water situation (they did not fill their tub), had their daughter (who lives on the upper west side of Manhattan) come to rescue them...they moved out on Weds. Thankfully they left me with their battery powered radio (another relic from the 80's, a Sony Dream Machine clock radio) and it was truly a life saver. Finally I had access to the local news and could listen to Mayor Bloomberg's daily address to the city and press outlining the status of the power restoration and public transportation updates. By Thursday I learned that Con Ed was on track to have all of the power in Manhattan restored by midnight on Saturday. I have to say, they came through and the lights were back on in my neighborhood by Saturday morning. The power outage did not impact all of the city...only 2 blocks north of where I live, there was electricity. It was torturous to look out my window and see the traffic lights and office/apartment buildings so near by aglow in light while I was stuck in total darkness. The most difficult thing for me (besides no power and water) was the feeling of isolation and lack of information regarding the time line for getting the power turned back on. I now realize after seeing the news reports and photos of the devastation, so many people experienced much more hardship and loss than I did. My apartment building was not damaged or flooded and my biggest loss was the food I had had to throw away. So many people lost their homes and businesses and now with my power, heat and hot water restored, I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I sincerely hope no one has to live through this type of natural disaster.....I'm not gonna lie, it was really, really hard. Now that my life is back up and running, I am seriously looking forward to watching an awesome new episode of H50. It will no doubt make me smile and help me forget the unpleasantness of the last week. Peace to all... nycgal

Glad you are doing well, nycgal. We just got out power back! We, too, filled our bathtub but we lost phone and internet. Thank goodness for smartphones! It was nice to miss a weeks worth of political ads, though!! Funny how emotionally draining an experience like this is! Irene was actually much worse for us and scarier because it hit at night. Sandy was during the day so we could see what was happening. I am so happy they postponed last weeks 50 and I am thankful that we all came though the storm unscathed! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers and glad to be back!!

NYCGal, I'm so glad to hear from you. I have to admit that I was feeling scared about you. I was so afraid that you were caught in the middle of all the devastation so to know that you are okay is a huge relief. I'm very sorry that you had such a nightmarish week. Helping out your elderly neighbors during all that, you really know how to be a blessing. You're one tough gal! Thank you for sharing your story with us.
Kbob, I'm glad to know that you got your power back. We've had some blizzards here in Indiana that have shut the city down for almost a week, but I don't ever remember having to face a storm like this one. I'm sure it was very stressful. I loved the comment about the shower after watching "Superseal". It sounds like everything's working out for you now.

nycgal, I'm glad you're okay. I figured you lived in the part of Manhattan that had no power and that therefore there'd be no way for you to get in touch, but it is good to hear from you, finally. I'm glad you found those "relics from the '80s" useful--I have five radios that can run on batteries and you will pry my trimline phone from my cold, dead hand. I missed the storm because I was on vacation, but we don't appear to have lost power here. We did lose some trees. The building my office is in is closed for a month because of the flooding, so the company is making alternate arrangements. I go back to work, some way or other, on Thursday. Other than Lower Manhattan, Staten Island, the Rockaways, and Coney Island seem to have taken the brunt of it. It's going to take a long time to clean this up.
