Hi, Everyone.
I'm just back from Hawaii, so I'm kinda busting at the seams right now with tid-bits from the show.
So, I decided to start this thread so we can all share some island info about filming locations, etc.
The hotel we stayed at had Hawaiian dancers every morning. I got to talking to one of them, and it turns out she is not only a fan of the show, but has been an extra in 2 episodes. She told me that all the Shrimp Truck scenes are shot on the man-made beach behind the Hilton Hawaiian Village. And that the original Shrimp Truck that Kamekona's is fashioned after is up on the North Shore and called Giovani's. Giovani's is white, and sounds Italian to me, but that's the scoop.
We did visit the North Shore, but didn't go around to the East side of it to where Giovani's is. However, I did find a restaurant named 'Kono's'.
So, who else has been to Hawaii and has something to share?

We played H50 trivia the entire time we were there. Every time we walked or drove past a place, someone would say "ooh that was where..... ". I also realized that my husband pays more attention than I thought. Its amazing how they film all over the island. One observation was that the bush where McG picks the flower and gives it to Cath in episode 2x04, does not exist. I will say that they must have a hek of a time clearing the streets to film because it is always very crowded.

Hubby is not a viewer, so I had to say, "ooh that was where..." to myself. And he did finally stop asking me why I was taking more pictures of things he did not find relevant to our vacation.
I've got a lot of HF-0 related pics that I would post here, if only I could figure out how. If anyone can help me out on that, just let me know.
As far as clearing the streets, in addition to 'Film Crew Ahead' signs, they have special 'eye' signs they use. It's got a graphic on it of an eye, so those interested can be on the lookout for the cast. Some of the tour bus drivers we had told us that they film all over the island, and the local viewers get a kick out of it because one part of a scene will be on the North Shore while another part is on the South Shore. Something only a local might pick out.

Did you actually get to see anyone from the show? Did you get a picture of the King Kamehameha (sp.?) statue? I just can't imagine how excited I would be to get to see all these places that were on the show. Oh! Did you go to Pearl Harbor and see the USS Missouri and walk the docks right there where they filmed the pilot? I know I'm going to think of more questions later. I think this is so neat.

Got lots of pics. Hubby finally stopped asking me why I was taking out the camera, again.
Yes, we got the statue, the trolley from the pirate episode, the catamaran from last Halloween's episode, the stairs inside the Ali'iolani Hale that have been featured, the Governor's Mansion, and so much more. If I can figure out how, I will post them here... or a link, or something.
Didn't make it to Pearl Harbor, which is ironic. It was at the top of our To Do list, but the one thing we didn't get to do. You can only cram so much into a week. Guess well just have to go back.

Runner, we probably have the same pictures. We did go to Pearl Harbor and it looks so different from TV. We even got to meet a survivor who was there with his family. Very cool.

Glad you liked 'em, 2012. That 8' cutout of Kamekona was great. I even had my picture taken with 'him'.

At a retail store called Hilo Hattie's, in Honolulu. I bought some pineapple Christmas ornaments while I was there, too.
