Have you all seen Tripler? It's the military hospital there on O'ahu. That's the one Chin was taken to in the 3.01, where Malia was helping out. The building is hard to miss,... it's atop a hill and painted pink.

Hi, Everyone. I'm just back from Hawaii, so I'm kinda busting at the seams right now with tid-bits from the show. So, I decided to start this thread so we can all share some island info about filming locations, etc. The hotel we stayed at had Hawaiian dancers every morning. I got to talking to one of them, and it turns out she is not only a fan of the show, but has been an extra in 2 episodes. She told me that all the Shrimp Truck scenes are shot on the man-made beach behind the Hilton Hawaiian Village. And that the original Shrimp Truck that Kamekona's is fashioned after is up on the North Shore and called Giovani's. Giovani's is white, and sounds Italian to me, but that's the scoop. We did visit the North Shore, but didn't go around to the East side of it to where Giovani's is. However, I did find a restaurant named 'Kono's'. So, who else has been to Hawaii and has something to share? I just saw this picture online...

I just saw this picture online... That's awesome, 2012. I had been told it was white, but wow, it looks like it's been autographed by every one on the island.

Has anyone surfed the Pipeline --- where Chin introduced Danny and Steve to Kono?
We did go there, enjoyed the beach and played on the water, but I don't surf.

I don't know anyone who surfed there, either, but I know people who have visited the beach and picked seashells there. These people also aren't into surfing, but they did witness a near-shark attack. No one was injured, and those who were in the water weren't too far away from the shore that they couldn't get to the land on time. Strangely, though, each member of the family gave me a different description of the shark.

We were there in the summer so the waves were a little bigger than Waikiki but not like on TV. That is more a winter surf spot. Hubby surfed there, he's the only one experienced enough. The rest if us stuck to Waikiki and the smaller breaks.

I wish...I've never surfed before. Hopefully, I'll learn how someday when I move to Hawaii.

Hey, maybe we'll be neighbors, 2012. We'd love to move to Hawaii, too. When we were there they were preparing for a competition. Apparently, if we understood the tour guide correctly, they schedule a 4 day open window for the competitions. They can tell by the weather patterns far away and the wind direction, when that 4 day window will be. Then, they wait to see which day has the best waves. So, the day we were there they already knew that the competition would be the next day, so there were pro surfers hanging around.

The HIC pro was a couple of weeks ago at Sunset Beach. The Reef Hawaiian Pro should start tomorrow on the North Shore. And the final in the men's world tour will be at Pipeline in December.

Runner, I loved your beach pics. I can just picture our team there or running through the marketplace and knocking things over. Thanks for posting!

It would be the HIC Pro that was happening at the time, 2012.
Glad you like the pics, Scarla.
On one of our tours, we drove by Jimmy Buffet's house, but the driver wasn't allowed to tell us which one it was.

We also saw Pi'ikoi Street, which dead ends at the Marina, where we saw a boat named Captain Danny.

I remember that line.
Our hotel was on Kalakaua Avenue, which always reminded me of Malia on the back of Chin's bike.

It just happened to be sunset while we were on one of the tour buses. The driver said, "It's gotta be 6:30" It never occurred to me that the sun would set there at the same time every day, no matter what time of year it is. I'm used to longer days in the summer, shorter in the winter, not the same all year long like that.
