H50 goes POI. Good episode. Unfortunate timing on Scott Caan's part - his being away makes it look like he's being replaced by Cath and Grover, and they just aren't Danno. I was screaming bloody murder during the first minute of his absence, then I realized he probably wouldn't show up for the whole episode. And while the Danno-like Grover and Steve banter was fun, it still just made me miss Danno even more. I really hated Grover after last week's talk with Chin about police backup not being there when needed, but I admit I like him again. But that may be only because Grover was written to be Danno in this episode. The whole thing was like watching Danno and Steve meet all over again. Crime must be at its lowest ever if the heads of 5-0 and SWAT can be hired out as process servers. This was really supposed to make the two of them bond? Steve's reaction to Halo was cute. The Iron Chef competition in the kitchen was fun - kept expecting to see Wo Fat there to mediate. "Can you even ride?" - I can't see someone who has never ridden a horse suddenly jumping on one to give pursuit. It'd be like jumping on a motorcycle if you've never handled one. And those are exceptional horses, not to shy away from the gunfire and a car driving straight at them. So lucky that Steve and Grover found themselves these horses. I was wondering why they didn't call on Toast. Would have been nicer to actually see him. Thank you writers for actually making Cath fail at something, if only for a nanosecond. I realize the door is open for the Jonas kid hacker to come back, but no thanks. He just wasn't a likeable bad guy I'd want to see back. Leave the computer stuff to Finch and Reese.

H5-0 just isn't H5-0 without the core four. I realize that two are missing by their own choice; clearly PL wouldn't call them into his office and say 'take next week off' so whatever they're doing must be more important to them and I'm glad they're able to do that. I'm not going to stop watching just because they're MIA nor because this episode couldn't hold my attention but I know I'll be much happier and more attentive when the familiar crew is all back in the office. Grover isn't an acceptable replacement for Danny when it comes to Steve and Danny. And even though I like Catherine, she's just not an acceptable replacement (to me) for Kono. It's doubtful that this episode will get a repeat viewing from me.
I do have to say that I really question Kono's decision to keep looking for Adam. Chin's logic that for her to keep searching would alert his enemies that he's still alive would have done it for me. She should have confidence that he would do whatever was necessary for them to be together somewhere, sometime and she should have gone back with Steve, Chin and Cath and waited for him to make his move. She should know that he wouldn't let her continue to believe he was dead and he'd want to be together as much as she did. He figured out how to fake his death; so he surely could find a way for Kono and him to be together. When Chin told her to "follow your heart," I don't think meant to this extent. It's one thing when they're running away together; another thing entirely when her chasing after him could result in his death.

Really glad to see Kono. Glad Adam is not dead. Actually liked Grover and Steve more than I thought I would. At least they had Cath doing intel work and not paired up with Steve. Good story overall.

it was nice to see Kono with them again even if it only temp... for now. Cath didn't really do anything she has done before which was good which was nice to see her working Intel area but I loved the twists to the case.speak of which I think it was really good move by the governor to make Steve and Grover work together or as Governor said play nice in the sandbox.
Governor who ask for apology for have gun point at him he really has not talk to Danny as he I sure Danny would love to tell the tail about how Steve got him shoot with in five mints of meet.
this is the first cold case that could come back to bite them later. that fact that the kid was communicating with Steve at end through a ATM dose that mean that he has the access to Steve counts details and Pin? and the fact the kid was Grover daughter computer dose that mean that the kid as access to her now?
Did Cath really need two guns on her person? i didn't think that she need more then one on her person at any give time. I guessing that she don't like the hip holder so she going with over the shoulder twin holder.

Great episode, really liked scenes with Grover and Steve, so much fun watching them working together. I want more! I was expecting them to catch Ian but still not disappointed ;-)

OK episode...better than I thought but still makes me miss the core four....between Grace Park's alleged pregnancy and Scott Caan's over scheduling, I guess they did the best they could. Can't wait until they are all together again. I wonder if that remark about Danno's dad getting a Corvette due to a midlife crisis is setting up the episode with Danno's mom, Melanie Griffith.....

This was a very good episode. I liked the way Steve and Grover found ways to respect each other. So happy to see Kono back with her team, even if it was for just a few moments. I think Nick Jonas did a great job and I'm looking forward to his return. Hopefully, McGarrett will arrest him soon. Honestly, one of my most favorite parts is to hear that Toast is helping 5-0 break into the corrupt computer system. I would love to see Catherine and Toast work together in the future. Wouldn't that be fun? I really miss Danny. Time for Scott to return!

* Will agree with everyone else that GP and SC's absence is not good and effecting the Fab4 too much. They have good careers, they should be grateful and come do their jobs.
* Someone in the Chat room last night wondered if Danny was on that incoming flight, which would have been a good move, especially if Steve didn't know it. Seeing Danny coming off the plane like that would have hit him like a ton of bricks. I'm sure Papa Williams' midlife crisis is a set-up for Mama Williams' upcoming visit.
* The McG vs. Grover was better than expected, and the friction between them can be a good setup for occasional episode scenarios, but it just can't replace the bromance. Glad that Chin told Steve what happened at the diner, as he should have. You don't dare threaten a fellow law-enforcements safety like that and get away with it.
* Clever of the Governor to give them a small and simple task to do to get them to share the sandbox.
* Dani is right; Steve's reaction to Halo was great.
* Glad to see Catherine staying within her element of intel.
* An obvious set-up for the Jonas kid to come back. Probably in the future episode where Grover's daughter has a problem he needs Steve/Five-0 to help with. Another obvious set-up.
* Agree with Katlyn that Kono may not be doing what is in Adam's best interest by continuing to look for him. It was good to see the Fab4 together, although it briefly, and am glad that Adam is not dead (yet). But faking his own death? Haven't we done this before,... twice. McMommy did it, and Adam's father did it.
* All-in-all a generally okay episode. Miss the Fab4 working together and will be glad when things get back to as close to 'normal' as we can get these days.

I thought it was a good episode, but I do miss the core 4. Wondering why SC and GP have been gone so much and so long with no explanation from TPTB....? I thought the chemistry between Grover and Steve was great--although no substitute for the real bromance. Kono going on by herself to look for Adam is a mistake. It could what sets Adam up for his demise...Chin was right saying that her looking for Adam is going to send up some flags to the wrong people. And the faking his death is just too over done on this show. Sigh. Glad that Cath was not paired with Steve this week. We have had a bit too much of her and not enough of everyone else lately. It was spooky that Ian was spying on Steve through the ATM at the end....wondering if Steve got his money? Wondering if they will bring his character back in a future episode-- Nest week's episode looks like fun.

The one thing I don't like about Grover is that he isn't really a new character - he's just Danno. Moved in from the mainland? Check. Doesn't really love Hawaii? Check. Has a daughter and is a single parent? Check. Forced to work with Steve against his will? Check. Hates the way Steve does things? Check. Thinks Steve is a danger and a menace to others, especially to himself? Check. Banter (feel free to insert married couple jokes here)? Check. Finds out they work together very well? Check. End up looking after each other? Check. Make up in the end and think they may be able to work together after all? Check. They couldn't have worked a bit harder to create a new character?

First let me say that I love the Core 4, love Danny, love Danny with the others . . . but I think I noticed his absence with the team (with Kono) in Japan briefly, then honestly didn't notice that he was gone again until about 3/4 of the way through the episode. I really enjoyed Steve and Grover together, even if it mimicked the Steve/Danny meeting/relationship. Loved the kitchen scene, each on their own "magic" brew. Somehow it felt fresh with a new person in the pairing.
Notice how easy it was to get some more depth to Grover's character? He left Chicago under questionable circumstances, has a teen daughter to raise, loved his reactions to the Governor and Steve. Something like this would be great to help flesh out Cath's character now that she is more of a regular. I don't think I've ever seen Chi in anything and I really enjoyed him.
Once the crime got into the computer stuff, I was rooting for a visit by Toast - would fit in well, maybe we'll get it when the storyline returns. Jonas kid was flat but good storyline anyway.
Overall a fun episode for me, I felt more engaged than I have for a few weeks.

Very good observations, Dani. Hadn't realized how many duplicates there were between the two men. I re-watched the opening scene with Sato and figured out that Alex, Grace, Michelle, and DDK may not have all been there at the same time as GP for filming. If you look at the edit points and pans they use, it is possible that only GP and DDK were there at the same time. In layman's terms, that means that they used a lot of over-the-shoulder and faceless shots, never showing more than one face at a time, both leading me to believe that all the actors may not have been there. The scene with both GP and DDK at the van is the only one that actually confirms that both of them were filming in the same place at the same time.

Not just similarities between Danno and Grover, but it seems like they are really running out of ideas. The whole black SWAT Danno Grover working with Steve is a repeat of the pilot. Cowboy Steve. Cath not being able to work the smart table (Danno had that before). Daughter's computer used to solve crime. Pint-sized computer genius was in S2 with SWSNBN. I believe tracking one puter from another was in the tsunami episode. The cybermenace thing was done back in S1. Someone escaping from airplane was also done already (via the washroom, wasn't it?).
Since they seem to be adding all the cyber stuff and Nick Jonas is all poised to come back, and Cath can't keep tapping the Navy resources the way Steve used to do with her, they should make Toast 5-0, too. In this case, it would be so hilarious and ridiculous, that I wouldn't mind them messing with the core four.

The scene with both GP and DDK at the van is the only one that actually confirms that both of them were filming in the same place at the same time. I rewatched the opening scene and thought the same thing. Unless they found someone with the same facial structure as DDK, that was definitely him with GP in the scene where she says she's staying. But the scene with Sato didn't include any shots of GP with any of the other actors so I think you're right that she probably filmed her part of that scene separately. I actually did rewatch the whole episode after saying I probably wasn't going to because so many people on this board said they liked it. I'll admit that it was better than my first impression of it when I wasn't paying attention very well. But I'm so looking forward to the core four back together again. It just doesn't seem like H5-0 when all we get is Alex and DDK as part of the main story. Grover isn't Danny and Cath isn't Kono, no matter how much TPTB try to make that work. And, Dani, great laundry list of similarities. Seriously ... couldn't they have at least created an original character if they wanted us to accept him as a major player in the 5-0 world?
