I must say I was bummed that Carol Burnett's comedic genius was wasted and she was used instead for a dramatic plot that could have used anyone else. Why invite the queen of comedy to a show, just to make us sad? I know she's an actress and singer, but I really expected some laughs tonight and wasn't in the mood for the tearjerker. And why do they bother thinking up any more family members for Steve, if they're all red shirts? ? If this was a setup for making MaryAnne stick arouond, bleah. I like Joan well enough, but MaryAnne doesn't really do it for me. The whole BIG secret buildup also bummed me. I thought it would be something that would add to the general plot... yes I like background on the guys, but ... what did this really add to anything, save the fact that Steve's family is doomed? The episode itself, OK. Interesting about the President coming and all. But Steve, really, in the middle of this huge case, you send out one of your supposedly top people to play chauffeur? Yes your Aunt is great and all, but .... maybe I should be seeing the scene as "Steve considers his family members more important than the President of the US". Still, it felt forced, just so they could have a Deb-Cath scene. Sharpshooting skills run in Chin and Kono's family. And, is Kono ever going to stop globetrotting and return to where she belongs? Cath's outfit reminded me way too much of one of SWSNBN's. Danno's clone of a different tone was invited to join the family. And Duke. Nice touches. The assassin was one dedicated dude. He's got cops chasing him and shooting at him and all he thinks about is getting the job done. On a beach. Yeah, because there's so many places to hide there. Take your time, Mr. Killer. I'm sure those cops right behind you are slowpokes. Plenty of time to walk up to your targets and shoot them slowly and then take a leisurely walk back into the jungle to actually try not to get shot by the cops. Sorry, I'm in a bad mood and probably shouldn't be posting.

Great episode, I don't think I know Carol Burnett but she was great in Five-0. I can't think about any reason for her to be in that episode, maybe just for the thanksgiving but still I liked what they did, at least we now have a face to the woman who took care of Mary and I like her. If I had the same tumour as her I would do the same, there is nothing worse than die with the thought that you could at least say goodbye to the people you care about. I loved Steve and Mary moments, to be honest I think that this episode was about family, not about murder. I'll give it a 5 stars.
Gonna say more later, cause I've got no time

I liked the episode. Knew all along Aunt Deb was really sick but nice to see Deb, Mary, and Steve as a family. Didn't expect the talk Deb had with Cath but thought it was appropriate. It is important that Mary and Steve stay close. The talk wasn't about Cath and Steve which was good. Liked the football scene with everybody who is Ohara. Nice touch. Enjoyed Carol singing. Difficult to see Steve and Mary so sad. Alex crying made me want to cry.

I liked the episode--thought they made good use of Carol Burnett. I am very glad that Aunt Deb didn't tell Cath something that she didn't want Steve to know.....glad she was upfront with Steve about the tumor. Sad though. The whole plot to kill POTUS was really sort of secondary to the family stuff----and how weird that this episode aired on the 50th anniversary of JFK? The football game was fun..everyone involved. The turkey still being frozen--happens way more than we think in the country!! As for not making use of Carol's comedic talents.....she is a big enough star that she would have some say in how her character was going to be written..she may have wanted to do something more dramatic....and the whole being busted for marijuana was funny. And don't you use marijuana for glaucoma-not cataracts? OK---I'm starting to ramble a bit. Need more coffee.....will probably have more later.

A couple of things that did bug me about last night's episode:
1- while they were at the airport where POTUS was arriving-I think it was Hickam?--- the fact that Grover, Kim and McGarrett all had their ties neatly done up--and there was Danno- 'Mr. Professional' -with his tie sort of loosened and shlumpy. Really--when you are meeting the president? Oy.
2- Grover had no problems with McGarrett threatening an injured perp with a lye bath. Wow----he got on the McGarrett crazy train quickly

I'm all over the place with my opinions on this episode.
It's true that this episode was far more family centered than about the case of the week. But, I suppose if they are going to have one that way that Thanksgiving was a good time to do it.
That said, Dani made a good point.... what was the point? Do Steve and Mary need to loose more people in their lives? Although I love Carol Burnett, I agree that her comic talents were not utilized. Although, again, DavilaRose also made a good point,... Burnett may have had some say in her role on the show.
Of course it would have been nice if somehow Aunt Deb had something to offer as far as insight into Doris and/or John. Even some little tid-bit that would have helped Steve - even down the road - put one more piece of that Champ Box puzzle together. Obviously she knew about Doris not being dead, but you'd think she would have said something, maybe even assumed that Doris would be there for Thanksgiving.
Perhaps the funniest thing of the episode had noting to do with Burnett at all.... because that would be that Steve would actually trusted Mary to have anything to do with the turkey. But then again, there was his contingency plan.
Enjoyed Burnett's song, but who told Larry Manetti that he could sing?
Loved the football game. Great family/ohana activity and, well, I just love football.
The scene between Deb and Catherine was nice. They didn't go overboard on it, but yeah,... there is a major case that involves working with the Secret Service that really needs all hands on deck right now. Not sure how/when they could have squeezed that scene in elsewhere, but for Catherine to be playing chauffeur at that time was odd.
Too much Grover. Just,... too much. It took Danny multiple seasons to understand Steve's Neanderthal-ways, but hey, Grover picked it up in just a few episodes and just stands back to watch.
Danny back and being jealous of Grover was funny. Could have done without the crooked tie, though.
Why wasn't Steve in his dress blues when at Hickam? Would that not have been appropriate, even though he is in the reserves? I'm thinking it would be.
Glad to see Danny's Monkey in this episode. Too bad she didn't have a line, just one.
Good set-up for Kono's return in 4.12, although I'm still hoping I am wrong about Adam being killed off.

I was thinking about MA (which is weird because I don't tend to) and Steve's issues about doomed family, and it struck me that MA realy is a pathetic figure. She's also lost her whole family, but she doesn't have the ohana Steve has. Yes, they're her friends too, but never in the way they're Steve's. She seems incapable of holding to a relationship - now she has Joan, but God knows what Joan will turn out to be like. She's the ditz in a family of pretty intelligent, gutsy people - must feel pretty outsiderish. She can't hold a job. What a miserable life. But she is good for comic relief - thawing the turkey out with the hair dryer was probably the funniest scene in the episode for me. But for her, it wasn't so funny. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for her.
I like the observations about Danno, Runner. Are we in for the battle of the clones?

It is possible that they wrote Aunt Deb with a terminal illness because that way there would be no expectation of future appearances by Carol Burnett. Again--Carol may have requested a one shot deal. And as for closure with her story line---there will be a phone call in a future episode where Steve/Mary Anne learn of her passing. At least we hope there will be some mention of her passing and we won't be left assuming or imagining her passing at some point. Don't know what her prognosis is--but with out chemo and radiation-she probably won't be around that long. Ed Asner was killed off in his second appearance-and that may have been to bring closure to his story line (after 40 years!!)
Hope this makes sense.......

What a poignant and emotional episode I loved it! exactly what a true Thanksgiving celebration should be!
Seeing everyone playing football together was a perfect start for a Thankgiving episode, just as the game is tied Steve has to leave to put the turkey in the oven.
Danno was a bit jealous to see Grover on the football field and ask Steve why he was there Steve explains, is that Grover’s family is out of town and it’s Thanksgiving so he invited him for Thanksgiving. The whole football scene gave me a vipe of true OHANA!!
Aunt Deb arrives at McGarretts home and immediately you can see that Steve has more feelings and love for his aunt Deb then he ever showed for Doris. Aunt Deb is the clue who kept the family together.
The jail scene broke my heart when aunt Deb explains to Steve why she needed to buy some weed she tells Steve she has brain cancer Steve broke down and cried and realize that his aunt Deb came to Hawaii to say Goodbye to him and Mary...... I lost it and cried Both Carol and Alex where amazing kudo's to them.
I was glad to see that Steve send Cath to pick up his aunt from HPD what gaves us a nice scene at a beautiful place on the beach where Aunt Deb say to Cath I have a feeling you will be around here for a while will you promise me to keep Steve and Mary close which Cath promise of course.
In the mean time Steve ask Danny some brotherly advice of what he should do with his aunt Deb illness Danny gave him the best advice their is enjoy your last Thanksgiving and makes some lovely memories. This was one of the best McDanno scene I've ever seen in 4 seasons.
For me this Thanksgiving episode was all about family (Ohana) if it's your family by blood our your work Ohana this is the true meaning of Thanksgiving sharing it together and be there for each other. Wish we could see aunt Deb again but we don't
The crime case itself was good and I liked the twist of and ending but was secondary for me.
I loved that we can see how changed Steve character really is from a cold men in season 1 to a men who shows his feelings in season 4.
I wish you all and your family's a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Fongs name used twice. Did I miss his return??
Kono still looking for Adam now coming to US? They would bring him here? Would be nice to see rest of Yakuza being brought down. So then why is Adam still in hiding? He must have Intel into his brothers gang.
The Kennedy family played football when all got together. That could be one reason to get them all together. It was nice to see everyone playing. It was a nice family moment. Was surprised Grover was there. The turkey problem seemed like no one knew what to do. Mary and her hair dryer was cute.
But the a rifle by the window and the chance of a Presidential Assassination did make me think of Kennedy.
"Nosy neighbor is cops best friend!" said Danno. Knew that either Andrea or Sheila Hicks were involved some how. Then when Hired Assassin Dante Barkov was chasing them with Steve and Danny in hot pursuit it was good that Chin Sniped him. He stood there confident and watching. Not sure what the Hicks were thinking running out on beach? Or Barkov not picking them off from tree line?? Especially as noted with 5-0 on his tail.
Carrol Burnett as Aunt Deb was good. Nice to make her on Dad's side instead of Doris so she wouldn't have to answer questions. But am surprised she didn't ask about Doris. Do wish we would have gotten to know her better. Maybe she will be on more? Liked her with Catherine. Also her singing was nice touch. Thought I'd hear, "I'm so glad we had this time together......" With her having a brain tumor and soon to die. Kind of showed that Steve and Mary were not close. But a lot of hugs now. Missed Mary's baby episode. Will have to watch on CBS.com.
Was also surprised Grover didn't question Steve trying to acid dip The Cleaner Raphael Moreno. Sure he and Steve got to see how the other one did stuff, and start to understand it, but really? To bad to he wasn't with family.
Nice to see Danny back.

Speaking of Grover being at the football game...I wonder where his daughter was? It would be cute to see her become friends with Gracie.

Agree with you, McRuff, about the McDanno/bromance moment in Steve's office. Danny gave Steve some very good advice there.
And I also thought it was odd that Aunt Deb did not inquire about Doris. Surely since she knew of her return that she would have assumed that she would be there at the McGarrett house.

And another thing that struck me as weird about this ep....
What was the purpose of Danny bringing up Steve's Strawberry Fields mission? It was just sort of out of the blue and hasn't been mentioned for 2 years. Thought this was odd.......
