Is it a face-to-face friend or an online friend? If online, have you ever met the person face-to-face? Do you still want them to be your friend when it's all over? Do you just want to play a joke on them privately or do you want to do something that others will be aware of? Do you really want to wait that long? People expect things on April 1 ... might not catch them when they're expecting jokes.
I don't personally have any immediate ideas but thought maybe a little more information might help others with ideas. I'm usually pretty good at making people believe something that's not true but mostly because I can look them in the eyes and not blink or laugh when I'm telling them something that is usually kind of outrageous.
But if it's an online friend, I've only managed that once and it involved a story I was posting on a fanfic site in which the last chapter (posted on April 1) happened to be the joke (i.e., what happened in the previous four chapters was a set-up to an in-story April Fools joke that was also a joke on the readers ... it kinda made them think a major (and very loved) character had died). And the joke was on everyone; not just directed at a single reader. But if it's just one person, not sure how you'd do that without embarrassing them and I don't think I'd want to do that.

She is a family friend who I went to school with. She has always be the joker in our little group of friends. she played my favorite Cousin 1993 when she give him a love letter say it from the girl he was in love with. in the letter it said for him to her the girl at coffee shop. when he got there girl he like was not there in her place was my friend, who told my cousin that it was all joke. She played me back 1994 April Fools, days before her family moved oversea now after all this times she and her family are coming to visit for three months next march. her father is in the Army so their move around a lot. you what she did she made a cupcake and give me one when I took bite out of it there was maggot in side the cupcake. I have never forgotten that Joke.
