Hawaii Five-0 fans, get ready to see a lot more of Capt. Lou Grover.
Chi McBride has been promoted to a series regular on the CBS series, TVGuide.com has learned. The Boston Public and Pushing Daisies alum made his first appearance as Grover (a character who also appeared in the original series) in the Season 4 premiere this fall. Grover recently moved with his family from Chicago to Oahu and now heads the S.W.A.T. unit on the island.

"After his first guest spot, we knew we had something special here with Chi playing Captain Lou Grover," showrunner Peter Lenkov said in a statement. "He just fit seamlessly into the fabric of Hawaii Five-0 and viewers are enjoying the spirited, if sometimes antagonistic, interaction between him and McGarrett. We are so thrilled to welcome Chi into our Ohana."
Added McBride: "I know this sounds corny but the only thing I ever wanted in my career was to be on CBS, the home of my idol Jackie Gleason. ... CBS graciously invited me to be a member of the cast of Hawaii Five-0 and it's been wonderful. The cast, crew and production have been so welcoming to me, and so my love affair with CBS continues."
Hawaii Five-0 airs Fridays at 9/8c on CBS. Are you looking forward to seeing more of Grover?

Chi McBride Promoted to Series Regular on Hawaii Five-0 by Matt Richenthal at November 21, 2013 1:42 pm.
Chi McBride is sticking around the big island.
CBS announced today that the actor has been promoted to series regular states on Hawaii Five-0 Season 4, having premiered on the opening installment in September as Captain Grover.
The character, based on someone by the same name in the original series, recently uprooted his family from Chicago to Hawaii.
“I know this sounds corny, but the only thing I ever wanted in my career was to be on CBS, the home of my idol Jackie Gleason,” said McBride in a statement.
“I finally made it to the Tiffany Network on Golden Boy, shooting scenes on the same stage where The Honeymooners was filmed. CBS graciously invited me to be a member of the cast of Hawaii Five-0, and it’s been wonderful. The cast, crew and production have been so welcoming to me, and so my love affair with CBS continues.”
Adds Executive Producer Peter Lenkov:
After his first guest spot, we knew we had something special here with Chi playing Captain Lou Grover. He just fit seamlessly into the fabric of Hawaii Five-0 and viewers are enjoying the spirited, if sometimes antagonistic, interaction between him and McGarrett. We are so thrilled to welcome Chi into our Ohana.”

My first thought was "are they going to make everyone a regular?" and then my second thought was "does this mean less Danny? I am thinking Grover is going to be a fill in for Danny more and more.

Grover will fill in for Danny more and more until Scott Caan can figure a way out of his contract.......

My first thought was "are they going to make everyone a regular?" and then my second thought was "does this mean less Danny? I am thinking Grover is going to be a fill in for Danny more and more. Your second thought was my first thought. I don't dislike the character of Grover but I wish they would make him "not Danny." Cookiejar, was its you who posted all the similarities between Danny and Grover on another thread? I wonder if they even consciously realized they were doing that. I know they like repetition ... Mom McG was dead; not she wasn't ... Noshimuri (not Adam) was dead; no he wasn't but then yes he was ... Adam is dead but no he isn't really. But two main characters who are so similar is just one character too many. The only main difference I can think of between the two is that one is black and one is white. I just can't wait 'til Grover's daughter starts calling Steve ... "Uncle Steve." But congrats to Chi McBride. Maybe this was intended all along or maybe he earned his way in with his rapport with McG. Anyone who has Jackie Gleason as an idol is okay in my book.

Don't get me wrong...I love the character of Grover...just wish they weren't writing him to be so much like Danny. I really liked him in the season premiere. I think there is more than enough room for Danny and Grover on the show.

I think Chi McBride is a good actor and will be good for the show. He is not taking Scott place and I don't think he will be in every show.
I feel sorry for Peter at the moment this press release has come at the wrong moment for Chi to become a regular on the show. As there are rumours that Scott might be in this film Entourage. Some off the Scott fan's do not believe Peter when he said Scott is not leaving the Show. I can not believe that Peter is going to let Scott have 3 months of in January to film Entourage. Scott is not one of the main actors on the film, Scott will only need a few weeks here and there to film.
It's not Peter's fault that Scott and Grace what time off.

It was someone else who made that comparison between Grover and Danny and it was spot on.
