HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Firefighters were called to Hawaii Five-0 star Alex O'Loughlin's Diamond Head home Monday afternoon after neighbors say they heard a loud boom.
"We heard a boom and his garage door blew off and then we saw the smoke," said neighbor Muriel Lighter.
The fire was reported around 3:35 p.m. Officials say most of the damage was contained to the garage.
"The company arriving saw smoke and flames coming out of the garage, they forced the gate open and were able to confine the fire to the garage and reported it under control about twenty minutes after they got here," said Honolulu Fire Capt Terry Seelig.
Officials say no one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. O'Loughlin did show up after the fire to check out the damage.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

I've known at least one other person who has had a garage fire due to spontaneous combustion. For as much as we get attached to our stuff, in the end it is just that--stuff. And while it is a hassle, it can be replaced. Thankfully, no one was injured. It also seems that this story doesn't have legs.....the only places I've seen it mentioned is on the forum and a couple of tweets.

One more thing about this fire
Alex sent this message to his fans about the fire from his Alex O'Loughlin Face Book Official Page
Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support at this time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. The fire has definitely taken a toll on my home, yet it has reminded us all of what is truly important in our lives. All that matters is that my family is safe and that no one was hurt.

'Hawaii Five-0' star Alex O'Loughlin's Honolulu home being renovated after fire damage Duane ShimogawaReporter- Pacific Business News Email | Google+ | Twitter | LinkedIn “Hawaii Five-0” star Alex O’Loughlin having some work done to his home in Honolulu, which sustained more than $110,000 in damage from a fire earlier this year.
O’Loughlin, who plays Steve McGarrett on the CBS crime drama television series that recently began filming for its fifth season, has been issued a building permit with an estimated value of $500,000 for the repair and renovation work, according to the City County of Honolulu’s Department of Planning and Permitting.
The permit, issued this week, calls for the addition and alteration to O'Loughlin's home and “maid quarters,” including a new gate, trellis and a new eight-foot concrete wall.
Honolulu-based Gregory Design Build Inc. is the general contractor for the project.
The fifth season premiere of “Hawaii Five-0” will be screened for the public on Waikiki Beach on Saturday, Sept. 13, at a Sunset on the Beach event, nearly two weeks before CBS airs the show on Sept. 26.
