Good episode, but was it not missing an ending? Like what was the purpose of the whole thing? I must have missed something. What exactly was IA investigating? I thought Chin must have killed Gabril, but he didn't.... so.... why? And I was so looking to the IA asses getting theirs kicked real good. It was nice to see Malia again. Kono in the bad wig was hilarious. She did look cute in pigtails, though. Why didn't Gabriel shoot the locked door open? Really missing Danno. At least the clone of another tone didn't replace him. I'm really happy for Scott and all, but there was no way for them to shoot the movie when H50 isn't filming?

I read somewhere they will be shooting a lot of the movie in April after H50 is done for the year....so where the heck is Scott? There was no mention of where he was tonight like there was in the past couple he has missed.
Good episode though. But the whole investigation came out of the blue. Maybe we will find out someday......
I will have more tomorrow.

Entourage only started filming (according to reports) this week (with much of the filming being done later in April, as noted) so Scott's absences haven't been because of that. He's not listed as having anything in production, pre- or post-production on imdb so whatever it is, it doesn't appear to be a movie. I can't imagine him, though, asking for time-off "just because" as he seems to always need to be doing something.

What a great episode. The only thing that bothers me is that shaky camera thing

Interesting just seeing Steve, Chin, and Kono. No Cath for another week, maybe still on reserve duty. No Grover. Never explained where Danny was. But for those Danno lovers he will be front and center when his mom is around. Liked the story just wished they had mentioned previously Chin's dad was killed- that came out of the blue. Why did they ever kill off Malia? Really liked that her in this episode and liked how they flashbacked to her and Chin meeting. As was mentioned it was a weird ending. But I really enjoyed the episode.

Just to let everyone know Michelle Borth was on a radio talk show yesterday and said. She is contractually obligated by CBS to appear in 17 of season 4's 22 episodes. That means she will be absent from 5 episodes.
So far Michelle has not been in 4.12. 4.13 and I think she will not be in 4.15 the other 2 episode I don't know.

*Dani had a good question; What was the purpose of IA's investigation? From the very beginning I assumed Chin had killed Gabriel, that thought continued right up until he didn't. If it was about his having let Gabriel go 15 years prior, it's not like Chin or any other cop could have arrested him on a general description and a hunch with no witness to verify it was him. Because clearly if the shop owner hadn't have died, he would have identified the perp as Gabriel when Chin brought him the photo.
*Also didn't quite understand the look - or as Danny would say; Steve's 'face' - at the end when Chin was leading Gabriel away. It was obvious there was a fist fight and Chin had him in cuffs. So,.. why the look?
*Teenage Kono was fun to see, and the mention of her surfing was a good add. Glad she is back full time again.
*Found it... well, 'amusing' is the only term that comes to mind right now,... how both Steve and Kono told Chin to keep calm with IA and to not let them get under his skin, but then they couldn't do it either.
*Will throw in my consensus with everyone else in wondering where Danno is. Although he was obviously not there 15 years ago and therefore IA had no reason to talk to him, he still could have been in the flashback scenes labeled 'five days ago'. At the very least he should have been mentioned to explain his absence.
*Assume Catherine is still on reserve duty, which is good, because we need to catch up on some Kono screen time.
*Glad there was no Grover in this episode and hope that happens more often.
*Good to have some background on Chin, other than the generic knowledge that he comes from a family of cops. But as many of us have said from whenever this episode's description came out; why hasn't it been mentioned before, even between Chin and Steve, having shared a similar loss of their fathers?
*Also good use of papa McGarrett, even a mention of Steve joining the SEALs.
*Nice to see some Malia, glad they worked in the scene where they met. It makes sense how the board rental company found Chin, since he gave her is last name, but how did Chin find Malia since she did not give him her's? Gonna have to ass-ume it was the board rental company that told him. Still bummed they killed her off, so unnecessary.
*The editing dept did good on this one. Switching from present day, to 15 years prior, to just 5 days prior (all while working in commercial breaks), could get confusing, but this wasn't at all. Very well done in that regard. And I like how they worked the case-of-the-week into it all.
*Liked seeing where Chin got his idea for the shotgun. "I've gotta get me one of these." Nice tie-in.
That's all for now. Very enjoyable episode overall.

Well-I think everyone else has hit all the highlights I've been thinking about all day. The lack of Danno is just weird. If you remember, last week the only scene everyone was together was the final scene where Kono and Adam showed up. So in two weeks, we've seen the cast/core 4 together once. What is up with that? One moment I really liked was where Chin tried the shotgun--loved his comment "I've gotta get me one of these". Overall a good episode---just some hanging thingies....

I'm thinking that a good percentage of the really "bad guys" who have a "major" role in the life of 5-0 ... e.g., Wo Fat and Sang Min ... end up escaping from jail and 5-0 goes up against them again. So maybe the purpose of this whole scenario was to bring Malia's brother back into Chin's life so, this time, he'd put him in prison but he somehow escapes and Chin ends up going after him again. He WAS shot so he'd end up in a hospital ward (or under protection in an actual hospital) so he could easily escape. It was an interesting story when it came to Chin's background but I was kinda left wondering what the point of the "modern day" story was ... unless it was to bring another nemesis into the life of 5-0.
And I, too, loved Chin's comment about the shotgun ... as well as seeing the story about the surfboard come to life. I think the only thing that could have made that better was, for newer viewers (and there seem to be more this season), as Chin stood there silently after recalling their meeting over the surfboard, it might have been nice to use a flashback to him telling the story of how it wasn't really her surfboard anyway. But I know time is short and we can't have every scene we'd like to see.

Prefer when they have an A and a B story, and all 4 are present and/or accounted for. Bring on the kidnapping and Momma Williams!

What a great episode. The only thing that bothers me is that shaky camera thing I agree with you there. Cop shows since the early '90s have used it. There is no artistic value to it whatsoever. Shaky camera moves work for point of view shots, fight scenes, car chases, or scenes where the characters are in closed spaces, like in a corridor, small room, or sitting around a table, and each are talking one liners, and swinging the camera from one person to another will be faster. Older TV shows used it sparingly.

I must agree that the writers did a good job this episode intertwining things like Chin and his shot gun statement,Daddy Mc G mentioning Steve becoming a SEAL, Kono as a surfer, Malia and Chin meeting for the first time.

Wondering how they will explain her absence. Will she be in the reserves the whole time? or working on a different case or visiting her parents? Don't like when they don't explain a character's absence like they sometimes do with Danny.
