Another good episode, with a few misses. I'm not seeing MGriffith as Mama Williams.... she looks too botexed and sounds too breathy-little-girl lispy to be Danno's mom.... she's an older woman trying too hard to look younger and it's not the image I had of a normal every day mom. Too bad, because I was looking forward to Danno's reactions to his mom's "visiting". The car scene with the 3 of them was great, once I got past what Mama looks and sounds like. The story was actually better than what I expected - not a cliche'd story but a real, sad end to a marriage. Pinup Monkey.... aaack. Don't like to see little girls made up to look to be older (seems I have a thing about looking your age, huh?). Between Mom dating again and Monkey starting to, I can see Danno's head exploding. No wonder he's going to be messed up enough to pant after a 19-year-old. Grover - he's finally beginning to be his own character, so I won't call him the Clone - his story was OK and all, but I have zero interest. I finally have my Core 4 back, so I want more of them, not some peripheral taking up way too much screen time. Less Grover, please. Max is OK, he's never on for that long, and he's such a dork, he's adorable. Leatherface Max .... he's so far removed from the humourless Max's first apperance, yet he had me giggling. Starting off an episode with bromance? Kudos. Ditto how the boys are again helping each other, although Steve had to be a smartass about it. i'm going to be thinking twice before hanging up any pictures. Chef Danno - is this the same guy who almost burned down Steve's house once? Daryl Hannah - maybe they should have had her play Mama. She's likeable in a sleazy real estate lady sort of way. HPD seems to have trouble keeping track of stuff - money, guns. No one shoots at Chin on Kono's watch. ♥♥♥♥♥ Badass Kono. More, please. They find a body in a wall and they don't bother to Xray the rest of it? ?? All in all, a good episode, even though a bit too busy with the 3 stories going all over, but overall good. Too bad about the misses, though. The Mama storyline is over for me.

Loved the exchange between Steve and Grover. Feels to me this episode set the scene for Steve's PTSD. Not keen on Danny and mom storyline so far. Loved Chin and Kono solving the crime which I thought this week was background filler. Did not miss Cath as I keep saying never been a fan

The episode was ok, not great. I agree with Danno's Dani-it was distracting to see Melanie Griffith and then hear her sing-song-y girly voice. I originally pictured a shorter, heavier Italian woman for Danno's mom, who was the stereotypical smothering grandmotherly type as opposed to the 'Housewives of New Jersey' type. And then the whole new house, that was nicely decorated, came out of the blue. Along with the cooking aspect, I felt that the writer hadn't seen any other episode and really didn't know Danno. I was glad they, albeit briefly, mentioned that Matty was on the run. With that being said, I am glad that Danno is settled into a nice house, and combined with the cooking, we see growth in Danno's character.
As far as Grover is concerned, it was nice they explained what happened in Chicago, and he really acted well in a touching scene, but I was a little confused as to why he referred to McGarrett's 'issue' that hasn't come out yet(prob. yes, the PTSD) but again that is kind of out of the blue. Not that he doesn't have a reason to have PTSD, but he has not exhibited symptoms that would cover what Grover was alluding to. We all knew Grover had a dramatic secret. I do miss the mystery of McG's mom and Wo Fat and look forward to that story moving forward since it seems to have majorly stalled.'
As for the case of the week, it didn't make sense that they didn't take apart the whole house and they assumed there was only one body buried in the walls. But this is TV. And as much as I like Kick-ass Kono and Chin, Chin did not need to fly in through the guys window to capture and arrest him...I thought it was misplaced action.
The good thing was that Danno was in a lot of the show-something that has been missing lately. Next weeks promo shows Danno's mom getting into the thick of a case, and that sounds cringe-worthy frankly so I don't have high hopes for it. I do look forward to seeing Tom Berenger play Danno's Dad in this story arc...

It was a good episode....obviously we are gearing up to the end of the season with all the stuff that came up tonight. Grover and Steve's conversation about talking stuff out foreshadowing Steve's PTSD. Now, we all know that Steve probably has some issues with PTSD, but to date, hasn't been brought up in an episode so far in the almost 4 year run of the show. (at least if I'm remembering correctly they haven't--please correct me if I'm wrong).
Would really love to see the resolution of Mama McG's and Steve's conversation about her connection to Wo Fat....that was, um, oh yeah, from LAST SEASON. Really wish they would resolve story lines before opening up a bunch of others......I know, I know...I ask for too much sometimes.
I did not envision Mama Williams as a 'Housewife from New Jersey'. I saw her as a "mom" -- a little older, maybe Italian. Somewhere along the line I saw Danny as coming from a working class family...his Mom would not be overly botoxed and have had too much plastic surgery.
Hmmmm....there was a lot going on last night. A crime of the week....(Max was funny), the Danny/Clara and divorce thing--(loved the three of them --Danno/Steve/Clara in the car-- and Steve's hasty retreat), and the Grover back story with the Steve PTSD foreshadowing. Hope people came back to watch after a bunch of weeks of repeats and the Olympics.
All in all a good ep.

It was an interesting episode. Agree with overall feelings expressed that Melanie G was not the mom we all expected. She needed to be more average not so glam - did you see the shoes she was wearing after her long plane flight and her beach attire? Also Danny said in a previous episode she made great lasagne and now she is making spaghetti with ketchup. Love Danny's new house but where did that come from? Funny scene with the three of them in the car. Finally know what is up with Grover. But the PTSD story line came out of no where. Would have made more sense for Cath to bring it up or one of the core 4. Enjoyed Chin and Kono.

What's with the big mystery about why Steve came back home? Grover made it sound like there's more than MG Sr. getting killed and Steve wanting to catch his killer.
Need to ask - other than Mama Williams not looking the part most of us seem to have envisioned - cookiejar, you hit it on the nose = she's way too glamorous! ... did anyone find her a bit flat? I swear she delivered every line with the same amount of emotion and inflection. Only when she mentioned she was crying all the time, did she wipe away at tears and that was the first time I felt an actual emtion from her. But everything else just seemed like a monotone - she looked and sounded the same whether she was telling Danno she loves him, or how much she wants to see her granddaughter, or saying she's divorcing her husband. And now that he's coming over, Danno should lock them up in a room so that they can talk and realize they still want to be together and all that happy ending stuff.
And why is Steve headed for a meltdown, if things are going pretty smoothly? Is it that he has to be in crisis mode all the time, and can't stand normal life?

I had forgotten that thing about Grover mentioning why Steve came home...You would think Grover had done his homework and found out about Steve coming back to the islands when his Father was murdered and Jameson setting up H50 with Steve in charge. That conversation struck as really odd. Obviously trying to set something up for the end of the season.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was irritated by Melanie Griffith. I really didn't think she was a good choice for Danny's mom. I did like the scene with her, Danny and Steve though. It was hilarious. Overall I did enjoy the episode. Loved having the bromance back; and seeing Chin and Kono working together again -- Finally!!! Grover didn't bother me as much as he did in earlier eppys. He's OK in small doses. By the way -- what kind of security does Grace's school have? Some woman shows up - says she's Grace's grandmother and want to take her out early - and they let her? Even if Grace confirms that she's her grandmother, why didn't the school confirm with Danny? That really bothered me -- that and dolling up Grace with all that make-up. Ack. But still, a more enjoyable episode than some of the earlier ones this year.

Although, it would make more sense to confirm it with Danny. Maybe Clara arranged to pick up Gracie at the end of the school day and just pulled her out early to do girly things. There was no Catherine in the ep.....but again, there was no mention of where she was.....it is these little tiny details that drive me nuts. All it takes is a line in passing and it makes the show so much more complete and enjoyable. Rant over.

I thought this was a pretty good one. It had the H5O "feel" that made me like the show. It was nice to see Chin and Kono working together and I enjoyed seeing Grover's character get some development. Mamma Williams doesn't work for me. To me, she's Steve's sister Mary in an older body. Just the right amount of Max and I didn't miss Catherine. Why didn't anyone smell the bodies rotting in the wall?

Agree that the statement from Grove as to why Steve came home seemed pretty odd. He came home to catch his dad's killer. Don't know where they are going with that.

So I've had some time to think (usually a dangerous thing) and discussions about Mama with friends, she's growing on me. Still not thrilled with her "glamness", but someone suggested she's a throwback to the June Cleaver moms - the math is a little off, but I can buy it. Also, wanting to look young and having "work done" shouldn't be any different than someone coloring their hair or losing a few pounds to look better. And, maybe she's just quirky and wants to be a glamour mom ... Danno had to inherit the quirky from someone. And the thing that really bothered me, that flat monotone.... duh, she's not the happy divorcée. Her hubby didn't do the cliche chasing after young skirts, he's just lost interest in being with her - so she doesn't hate him or anything, and she's sad that her marriage has come to this... so she's not going to be bubbly and perky (which, when I think about it, might have been even more annoying) and even her victory singing is going to be flat. So yeah, I've come to terms with Mama and I'm actually looking forward to the arc (OK, this is largely due also to the fact that Tom Berenger is Papa).

So yeah, I've come to terms with Mama and I'm actually looking forward to the arc (OK, this is largely due also to the fact that Tom Berenger is Papa). Funny you should post this today, right after I had a talk with someone at work about pretty much the same thing. On first glance, you just can't get away from the look. But if you actually glance away, although it's definitely Melanie Griffith's voice and she has a very distinctive one, you can hear more in her tone than if you're looking at her and distracted by the plastic surgery / botox / whatever. Especially in the scene in the living room when they're sitting down and Danny is telling her that he realizes he hasn't been supportive, there's more to it than just the flat monotone. I AM distracted by her changed appearance and I think I was letting that distract me from what the character is going through and how she's dealing with it. I like Melanie Griffith and I want to like her as Clara Williams so I'm looking forward to more. I would just love to see Clara and Mama McG meet up! As for the episode ... maybe Clara taking Grace for a makeover was a way for Clara to try to feel younger while inappropriately making her granddaughter look older. But I liked that Danny realized that he couldn't really be mad at Grace because she was just going along with her grandmother and he simply told her to go wash her face. I didn't really find it unusual that having found one body in the house, they didn't immediately assume there were more. Don't know if I read that here or heard it from a friend. If you think about any crime scene they've come across (e.g., the body out by the petroglyphs when Steve broke his arm), they don't assume that if there's one dead body there must be more. They had no reason to believe there was another body until they knew who the victim was and finally questioned the guy who killed him. Did anyone else notice that Steve used his "Hi, Max!" voice when he greeted Chin. Y'all remember the episode when Max wouldn't talk to Steve or Danny and would only respond to SWSNBN? And when he called them while they were in the car and Steve greeted him with that cheery, "Hi, Max!" and then asked if they ... or Danny, maybe ... had done something to make him angry? That was the same voice he used when he greeted Chin as they pulled into Danny's driveway and he knew he had a way to escape. Really ... check them both out if you don't believe me! I have to say, finally, that although I don't mind Cath, I didn't even realize 'til the episode was over that she hadn't been in it. So I guess I've decided that my reaction to her is that I can take her (in relatively small doses and not at the expense of the core four) or leave her. I didn't really miss her.
