Even though “Hawaii Five-0” is about to finish its fourth season Friday and its fifth season premiere is still months away, it’s not too early to look ahead. And no conversation about a new season would be complete without asking if CBS plans a Sunset on the Beach premiere for fans.
The popular event on Waikiki’s Queen’s Beach has become a September tradition for “Five-0” with fans from around the world packing the sand for an advance screening under the stars.
The show has opened each season with Sunset on the Beach, giving thousands of fans in Hawaii a first look at the series that films in their back yard. Last year, the show unveiled its season with a screening followed by a free concert by the Jonas Brothers.
“We’re talking about it now, about how to make it happen,” said “Five-0” executive producer Peter Lenkov. “I want it to happen even if I have to pay for it myself.”
The Jonas Brothers perform at Sunset on the Beach following the season four premiere of “Hawaii Five-0″ on Sept. 26. It was the last time fans would see the band perform together; the trio split up following the appearance.
Lenkov said “Five-0” owes its Hawaii fans nothing less than the beachfront premiere, which includes a red-carpet arrival of the show’s stars all gussied up.
“I love the fact that there is a real audience there on the beach and getting their love and acceptance at Sunset on the Beach just tells us we are doing a good job,” he said.
He’s not saying anything about the plot of the premiere episode but each of the previous seasons have featured big stunts and plot twists.
“We always try to do something that is big and epic and I want to show it on the biggest screen possible,” Lenkov said.
