I must say, I liked the patsy turned payback killer storyline. Another good episode. - I must've missed something, because they got who the guy is just from a blood sample? - Steve and Danno have found Dolores Umbridge's muggle apartment. - Don't think do-it-yourself surgery is a good idea. - Is Ricky related to Toast? Jerry continues to evolve and turns out to be a wonderful, sensitive empathic human being. What happened to the reclusive paranoid guy we first met? Danno & Steve's partnership continues to amuse and please. I like how Steve is trying so hard to listen and be more like what he thinks Danno would like him to be. But then, will he be the Steve we all fell for?

I was actually a bit disappointed in this episode. I've always liked the carguments but I think they carried it too far with an episode that was almost half cargument. And we didn't really learn anything new except that Steve gave up the guitar because he got stage fright when he was 15. Danny giving him a guitar and Steve letting Danny drive was just a too fluffy ending for me. It might have been a better choice to have them open that workbook and work on some of it together. That's where we might have learned something new about them.
The story line with Cloris Leachman (Ruth) and Jerry seemed not to fit at all. Ruth's an almost reclusive, lonely old lady who made up a story about a missing fern to get attention and when she gets the attention and goes for a walk with Jerry, she's suddenly part of the ohana, telling bawdy jokes and refusing garlic because she has her eye on some guy at the next table with silver hair. I liked her part of the story with Steve and Danny but I think Danny was right when he said Steve should have let her think they were married instead of breaking their cover so quickly and telling her they were cops. It probably would have made for some funnier scenes.
The robbery storyline was kinda predictable. When the guy got into the car at the beginning after robbing the jewelry story I actually wondered if she was going to stab him or shoot him. And when they were talking to the store manager (I think she was the manager) I was wondering how long it was going to take them to figure out that she was in on it. I didn't have the women pegged as lovers, though, so at least that part was a surprise. And OMG! Removing a bullet from your own abdomen ... whoa! I actually closed my eyes at that one because the guy was pretty good at digging into himself and pulling out that little bit of metal. Gross! But he could have at least had the decency to pass out for a few minutes after he did it! LOL!
I hope Ricky isn't a replacement for Toast because at least Toast can do practical things for them (and I like the character better) while Ricky gave them (presumably) all his contacts and how many times is he going to be able to do that. Maybe they needed him so they'd have someone who could go look for the cat.
Maybe they wanted to give DDK a script that was easier to handle rather than one with lot of action sequences because he was a first time director. I read an interview with him in which he said it was difficult to go from the director before the shot to being part of the shot and he actually forgot his line on his own first shot with himself as his director. You could kind of see that his acting was a little more self conscious, like he was trying too hard to remember that he was the actor for the moment and not the director. There was nothing majorly wrong about all of it but they've started to raise our expectations and I have to admit that I was disappointed to find that the twenty second preview of next week's show was the best part of the episode for me.

I just watched this episode and i thought it was great. Going into the episode, I was worried that they would portray more whiny Danno. Instead it seemed like he was really trying to 'work things out'. I enjoyed Cloris Leachman and even the druggie guy Ricky. You had over-the-top violence and thankfully that was at the end, but you had the ingredient that makes Hawaii 5-0 enjoyable for me and that is the heartfelt sentiment, whether is was Danno and the guitar or Jerry being a good guy and taking Cloris out for a walk....The humor-one of my favorite lines was "it's a tuba you schmuck" hit the mark every time. I thought of this episode as kind of the opposite of the stuck-in-the-exploded-building one as that was a psychological look into Danno's mind and this episode was a little bit about what made McGarrett tick..... The crime of the week didn't even matter. It was all about the characters in this one.... and Yes...next weeks episode looks awesome!
