Hawaii Five-0' Boss on Danny's Life-Changing Twist, Season 6 Big Bad
Peter Lenkov talks with THR about what's next for McGarrett and Catherine, and he weighs in on the show's chances for a season-six pickup.

Hawaii Five-0 ended its latest season with a bang.
The CBS drama's season-five finale featured the team gathering for Kono (Grace Park) and Adam's (Ian Anthony Dale) wedding, but no one got to do the chicken dance, as they needed to stop a terrorist from detonating a stolen nuclear bomb.
"I wanted to do McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) in a tuxedo, defusing a bomb, flying in a helicopter — all the things you see James Bond doing," executive producer Peter Lenkov tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The episode saw the return of Catherine (Michelle Borth), and though Steve was happy to see her, they didn't get to yet have a heart-to-heart. "It's not resolved how long she's going to stay," Lenkov says. "Clearly, it's a happy reunion, but it's a little awkward also based on how it was all left. They both have a lot to talk about, which they don't really get to in the finale, so I'm hoping that we resolve it at the beginning of next year and decide the fate of Catherine at that time."
A tense scene came at the end, with Gabriel (Christopher Sean) threatening Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) and setting up his path as the team's next nemesis, much like Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos) was in previous seasons. "[Gabriel is] definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with, and he's going to come right up, very hot out of the gate in the first episode next season," Lenkov reveals.
Indeed, viewers will soon learn more about what exactly Gabriel is planning: "The pieces are going to come a little bit more together at the beginning of next year. Somebody like that, you imagine as soon as he got away, he would have left the island, but he didn't, so you've got to ask yourself why."
Another reveal from season five's two final episodes arrived when Danny (Scott Caan) learned that he is the father to his ex-wife Rachel's (Claire van der Boom) son. The twist will "carry through to next season" and will lead to Danny's "growth," Lenkov says.
"Danny's daughter is becoming a teenager, and how do you deal with that, and dating and all the things that come with someone moving into that stage of their life," he adds about the many coming changes in the task force member's life.
Other storylines on the way for the show include more of a focus on Chin Ho's love life, a resolution with McGarrett's mom and even Danny and McGarrett taking a long-awaited trip together.
"One of the things we want to do is get McGarrett and Danny back to New Jersey," Lenkov says. "It's been something the fans probably have imagined, Danny taking McGarrett to his hometown."
The show has yet to get a season-six pickup from CBS, but Lenkov is optimistic. "I'm feeling really good about it — I may be by myself, but I am," he says with a laugh. "[But] everybody [at the network] seems to be, so that's a good thing."
