BY MIKE GORDON / mgordon@staradvertiser.com “Hawaii Five-0” will hold an open casting call for background extras from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hawaii Film Studio, 506 18th Ave. “We are hoping for a huge turnout,” said Johanna Bautista, who handles the show’s casting for background extras. “The more the better.” The show needs a wide range of background extras. “We are seeking anybody,” Bautista said. “Men, women of all enthncities. People in the military. Firefighters. Emergency Medical Technicians. Honolulu police. Nurses. Surfers. Yep, basically anybody.” Members of SAG-AFTRA, the actors union, earn $157 a day. Non-union background extras earn $65, Bautista said. One important quality is the ability to have a flexible schedule, she added. Although the show tries to give background extras ample notice of work, the call can sometimes go out one or two days before shooting. “Five-0” has about 3,000 people in its files, but many were only used in the first and second seasons so the show decided to look for more, said Bautista, who has worked with “Five-0” since late in the first season. Extras who worked last season do not need to attend the open casting call, however. People can pre-register at www.ohanacasting.com and save time by filling out a casting information card so they don’t have to do it Saturday. A printed copy will be available for potential background extras to double check. Parking will be available at the film studio. The CBS crime drama is expected to begin shooting its sixth season on July 8. ——— Mike Gordon covers film and television in Hawaii for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Wonder who likes the idea of being on the show so much, or who is just there because they need the work.
