BY MIKE GORDON / mgordon@staradvertiser.com For the sixth year in a row, CBS will premiere the new season of “Hawaii Five-0” with a red carpet celebration at Sunset on the Beach in Waikiki, the network announced Friday. The Sunset on the Beach premiere will be held on Sept. 12, which is nearly two weeks before CBS debuts the sixth season on Sept. 25. The event has become a favorite among fans who pack Queen’s Surf Beach. More than 5,000 people attended last year, including fans who traveled to Oahu from around the world. “Five-0” executive producer Peter Lenkov said he was thrilled at the announcement. “We never take anything for granted, not even returning for another season,” Lenkov said. “Sunset on the Beach is always a pleasant surprise, although I’d probably foot the bill myself if CBS and our great sponsors hadn’t stepped up. “This event has turned out to be our annual family get together.” Lenkov called the event a reward for everyone who works on the show. “Who doesn’t love a premiere?” he said. “Getting dressed up, walking the red carpet, watching our show play out on a giant screen in front of a massive audience… It’s a wonderful reward for the long hours and hard work.” www.honolulupulse.com/2015/07/h50-sotb-2015-announced/

SOTB has become a wonderful local event for the cast and crew. It's nice to see them do something special for those on the island. Plus it's free. Surprised it's 2 weeks in advance of the S6 premiere, since that's a long time to keep spoilers at bay.

Looks like bad weather for the weekend From Star Advertiser Worst weather from Jimena will come after storm passes By Craig Gima POSTED: 10:58 a.m. HST, Sep 8, 2015 LAST UPDATED: 5:57 p.m. HST, Sep 8, 2015 The worst is yet to come as Tropical Storm Jimena cuts off the tradewinds and drags moist tropical air over the state. National Weather Service forecasters say the greatest potential for heavy rain will come after Jimena moves past Hawaii, starting Thursday on Hawaii island and into the weekend for the rest of the state. The center of the storm will remain several hundred miles north of the islands, but, like Ignacio, Jimena will bring more tropical humidity over the state. “After it gets west or northwest of us is when the potential for heavy rainfall will increase,” said Tom Birchard, a meteorologist with the Honolulu office of the National Weather Service. “There’s a bit of a tail of convergence that will extend from Jimena to the southeast with lots of moisture.” For Tuesday, forecasters expect muggy conditions and cloudy skies in the afternoon into the evening with showers likely and variable winds to 15 mph. The vog that had been over Oahu over the weekend, may move south for the next couple of days, but will likely return when winds turn southerly after Jimena passes, Birchard said. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jimena was still a tropical storm with winds of about 45 mph, moving west at 7 mph. The storm was about 460 miles northeast of Honolulu and 480 miles north-northeast of Hilo. Wind shear is expected to weaken Jimena below tropical storm strength by Thursday. “The latest forecast from the Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu was showing Jimena, or its remnants, moving west and reaching the closest point to the main Hawaiian islands around Thursday afternoon. This may bring a return to deep tropical moisture, a more southerly flow and unstable conditions across the islands. Therefore, there could be another round of heavy rain during the second half of the work week and into the upcoming weekend,” the weather service said in forecast advisory. Burchard said the moisture over the state from Jimena may clear by the end of the weekend and tradewinds could return early next week. But the weather will likely remain hotter and more humid than normal through the end of October because of unusually warm ocean temperatures around Hawaii from El Nino. “It will be fairly warm and fairly humid for the next two months,” Burchard said. www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/20150908_Worst_weather_from_Jimena_will_come_after_storm_passes.html

7 Tips for Surviving the Hawai‘i Five-0 Season Six Premiere in Waikīkī The popular CBS crime drama has been renewed for another season. Follow these tips to get the most out of your experience at the premiere. By Diane Lee Published: 2015.09.10 02:24 PM Waikīkī will be even more of a zoo on Saturday, Sept. 12 than it usually is, as at least 8,000 residents and tourists crowd the beach for Hawai‘i Five-0’s season six premiere. Fans travel from all over the world to Honolulu for this annual tradition just to get a glimpse of stars Alex O’Loughlin, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park, Chi McBride and Jorge Garcia. If you’re planning to attend, here’s what we recommend to prepare for the big event: SEE ALSO: Hawai‘i Five-0 Season 5 Premiere on Waikīkī Beach 1. STAY COOL Bad news: It’s going to be a muggy 86-degrees this Saturday, even though there’s a 50 percent chance of rain. We recommend bringing a beach umbrella, a towel and beach chair. Don’t forget sunscreen, and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated, so you don’t pass out from heat exhaustion. It’s okay if you pass out after meeting DDK though. 2. PARKING Parking is a hassle, so we recommend carpooling or getting dropped off. If you’re planning on driving anyway, arrive early to grab a parking stall at the Honolulu Zoo or the Waikīkī Shell. 3. GET CLOSE TO THE ACTION If you want a front row seat at the end of the red carpet you’ll probably need to join Hawai‘i Five-0 super fans and camp overnight on the beach. These dedicated fans from Australia, Canada and Norway religiously travel to Honolulu for the premiere to get autographs, photos and a glimpse of the stars. Executive producer Peter Lenkov has a tradition of greeting fans at noon and passing out Hawai‘i Five-0 swag. Be prepared to answer questions from Lenkov to test your knowledge about the show. 4. BE COURTEOUS Use common sense. Don’t sit on the sidewalk. Try not to block the view of others. Show some aloha, folks. 5. GET YOUR CAMERA READY As soon as the stars arrive on the red carpet, get your smartphone or camera ready. At the 2013 premiere, Daniel Dae Kim skipped the red carpet media interviews and jumped over the fence to spend more time with his adoring fans. Last year, Alex O’Loughlin snapped selfies with fans. You might be lucky. 6. DON’T GO HUNGRY Yes, the event is free. But your stomach will be growling after waiting for hours in the hot sun. We recommend grabbing a plate lunch from Rainbow Drive Inn beforehand. Otherwise, bring some cash so you can buy some food and drinks from the food trucks at the event. 7. STAY AFTER THE EPISODE PREMIERE Don’t miss the free concert. It’s not over until Five for Fighting frontman John Ondrasik sings. We’re crossing our fingers that he’ll perform favorites such as Superman and 100 Years. 6 p.m. red carpet begins, 7 p.m. ceremony and premiere, Queen’s Surf Beach. If you miss the Waikīkī premiere, catch the episode on CBS on Sept. 25 at 9/8 p.m. central. www.honolulumagazine.com/Honolulu-Magazine/September-2015/7-Tips-for-Surviving-the-Hawaii-Five-0-Season-Six-Premiere-in-Waikiki/
