Rain threatens H50’s beach premiere

With heavy rain expected all Saturday and Oahu under a flash flood watch, the “Hawaii Five-0” Sunset on the Beach red carpet party is in jeopardy.

“We are praying for sunshine but if the weather is anything like today we are pulling the plug,” a CBS spokeswoman for the show said Friday morning.

She said a decision will be made Saturday morning.

The event Saturday night is the biggest date on the “Five-0” calendar. Now in its sixth year, it attracts thousands of fans to Queen’s Surf Beach for an advance screening of the new season’s first episode. The cast of the show, dressed in designer suits and dresses, walk along a red carpet stretched across the sand, greeting fans and posing for photos.

But rain is almost a certainty this year.

The National Weather Service is predicting an 80 percent chance of “heavy rain” Saturday during the day and a 60 percent chance of showers Saturday night as the remnants of former Hurricane Jimena continue to pull rain from the south.

“There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms tomorrow,” said weather service meteorologist Bob Burke. “There are going to be passing showers throughout the day but predicting where and when this far out is not really possible.”

Temperatures will also be high with humidity levels making it feel like 100 degrees in some locations, according to the weather service forecast.

“The temperatures have been into the low 90s and with the high humidity levels, it will be very uncomfortable,” Burke said.

I wonder if there is a place that they could hold SOTB inside? Like a sports arena --although they probably don't have many covered sports venues in Hawaii. It would be nice for all the fans that have traveled to Hawaii for the event.....
