The case of the week with Kamekona was really good. The couples therapy was OK.........
I just hope we don't have to wait until the season/series finale to get the cliffhanger tied up.

davilarose : Gabriel again will appear in episode 6.15, so maybe then we'll know something. Hawaii finally returned. I've been waiting for this episode when I learned that will be focused on Kamekona. After watching, I note that another great episode this season. I've always wanted to see the episode, which will be focused on Kamekona, and we know his past. I've always wondered how he went to prison, and how he became a P.I. of Chin, now finally we know the answers to these questions. I loved the story of Kamekoną, in the present and also in flashbacks (good casting young Kamekona, reminded him). Taylor Wily did a great job, I love Kamekona is one of my favorite characters in the show. Plus for a nice twist with his brother. I loved also the scenes Chin-Kamekona in the episode. In addition to the storyline of Kamekona, there's another storyline - Steve and Danny, who participated in therapy for couples, which they came by accident. A lot of funny and cool scenes appeared. There was also planegument between Steve and Danno. We had already been on the show, among others cargument, helicopter-gument, boatgument, now planegument. What will be next?

I was expecting a little bit more Steve and Danny. To me it seemed TPTB were giving Alex a rest after him being in the last 10 episodes. Kamekona story was good

Rewatched the episode and got more out of it this time. Was half asleep before. All in all a good episode. However for me the Kodam story is getting boring. Will skip this next time

Loved the background on Kamekona and felt that that storyline carried the entire show quite well. Laughed hysterically at Steve and Danny's little adventure, those two (both the characters and Alex/Scott) just play so well off of each other and it provided the lightness needed to balance the heavy main storyline. For me, one of the best episodes of the season!

I thought it was a very good episode. Certainly better than that boxing one which was awful. I agree that the lightness of the McG/Danno story line counterbalanced the drama of the Kamekona story line. The point that McG makes concerning Danno that he is a negative thinker and would do better if he thought more positively was the same theme as when that building blew up on them last season. Did anybody else catch that Danno said he had a girlfriend? I thought Amber/Melissa was out of the picture. Did I miss something? She hasn't been seen, talked about or heard from in a looong time.....

Happy New Year to all, hope it's begun well for everyone!
H50 started off the year well for me, it was a fun episode as well as dramatic, and I liked getting background on Kamekona. It's been a long time since his dark past was hinted at (remember the episode with the war bunker in the abandoned van, in the middle of nowhere?). The Danno-Steve story was pretty much predictable, but still funny. I found it interesting that Steve was so good at skipping out of class - I'd have thought Danno was the one who'd skip off classes, and Steve to be the studious one - no clue as to why, but for some reason, that's how I think of young Danno and Steve. Found it a bit weak plot-wise that the smart ex-SEAL would mix up a couples' retreat with what's essentially a team-building retreat, but I guess there's no good way to explain how they ended up where they did. Also, considering how ultra-luxury it was, WHY would work pay for a place like that? Whatever, it was still funny to see them react to the thought of having to talk about their lack of sexuality with each other and all that. And I did like how Danno stayed up thinking about Steve's comment about him being so negative (it's not the first time Steve has brought this up, though, is it?). Also how he reflected that maybe he could have done more to save his marriage. I can see the need to have a big-ass van for the surveillance equipment, but as a tailing vehicle.... isn't it kind of obvious? You wouldn't see that big white truck tailing you? Loved Professor Kamekona's Business 101 course at the beginning. Makes you wonder how big of a business magnate he would have become if he'd had the chance to go to business school. The Konad saga continues, with Gabriel getting his nose into everybody's business. I'm getting a bit tired of him. He's not as likeable a villain as Wo Fat was. I did catch the "I have a girlfriend" bit as well, and wasn't thrilled by it. I found Steve's attempt at hooking up with Alissa or whatever her-name-was so much more fun than the whole Danno♥Amber drama.

There is a deleted scene on the S5 DVDs that shows Amberlissa kinda following Danny after she realizes that it wasn't work calling but Rachel instead. Maybe they deleted it because they wanted the status of that relationship to remain vague. I don't think they've actually said they broke up; they just gave the impression that they MIGHT have. Still, I was surprised to hear Danny say that he had a girlfriend because he's the one person we haven't seen in a relationship during the early episodes of S6.

I saw that deleted scene too, Katlyn. Although it does give the writers an option to backpedal on this topic, another thought does occur to me; what if Danny only said that to keep Steve from knowing he and Bambi-Amber-Melissa are no longer dating. What if Danny simply didn't want Steve to know, therefor Steve wouldn't have one more thing to nag him about?
A long shot, yes. But still plausible.

I won't bother with the Good/Bad/Ugly titles, as this episode nearly all feel into the 'mediocre' category for me. If you care about my opinion, here it is...
The Good:
* Thought the brief opening with Adam & Kono was good. At least the writers didn't send him off to prison and totally forget not only the storyline but how it would effect Kono as a wife on a daily basis. And on a show that tends to develop story-arcs - only to drop them completely - that's a good thing.
* Steve's talk with Danny about his negativity was true to character.
* Danny's name tag.
The Mediocre:
* Although the background on Kamekona was interesting and a good storyline on it's own, it was just a weee bit overdone for my taste. I think I enjoyed the background on Chin more than anything. But poor Kamekona about his brother, what a bitter pill to swallow. No wonder my daughter has always hated white vans. And yes, Danno's Dani, I do remember Kamekona's van full of goodies for Steve. That was a very good scene.
* The couples retreat.... ugh. No, make that 'gag'. The whole thing. From our SuperSEAL being dense enough to mistakenly booking a 'couples retreat' instead of a 'team building retreat' was just stupid. Overly emotional Steve was so out of character, as opposed to Danny's vent, which was spot on. The overly predictable topic of sex in their group discussions was lame, and while I'm at it, so was the obligatory lesbian couple in the group. And I'm not even going to mention Steve rubbing Danny's hand at the end... 'cause I just ate.
* Also thought Danny would be the one to want to skip out on class. Again out of character for Steve to be the one to do that.
* Am not picturing HPD (not to mention the tax payers) footin' the bill for a place like that. But yes, this is tv, and of course some island hotel let HF-0 use it for free, so that explains it.
A friend of mine recently commented about having lowered the bar on her ability to enjoy HF-0 these days. Have to admit to having done the same thing myself, that said, I do hope I enjoy the next episode a lot more than this mediocre one.

I totally missed the name tag, and now that I've seen it, I think it's probably the best part of the episode. Can see why Steve would like the sounds of the place, yet you'd expect an ex-SEAL to research a bit and find out exactly what it is he's getting himself into? It'd have been more beliebvable to have had a secretary or aide or whatever 5-0 has, make the reservations without really checking it out. Something that just came to me - Abby or whatever her name is, wasn't in this episode.... and I didn't even miss her until now. Not a very memorable character...
