Interesting interview with Peter. According Peter a couple of actors already renewed their contracts for couple of years. I noticed that not all the cast members are in every episode? We try to give people a break to give them some time off, so that’s why. Do you see an end to the series? I hope not. There are a lot of people who count on the job, so I hope not. I think we will be around for a while. So does that mean that the cast has already renewed their contracts? A couple of them did for a couple of years. I am giving you way too much information! parade.com/510037/paulettecohn/hawaii-five-o-season-7-reveals-from-showrunner-peter-lenkov/

my bet that its Alex and Daniel that have renewed their contracts. As Alex was saying something last Christmas about renewing his contract plus Alex and Daniel both live in Hawaii.

I'm guessing that to get five episodes off, Scott might have agreed to a couple more years as well. As much as he likes to do other things, he's not an A-list movie star so people aren't throwing scripts at him. Even though he prefers L.A., he might also like the idea of a steady paycheck. It's been commonly referred to that he renegotiated his contract. That's something I do for a living and we never renegotiate unless there's a benefit for both parties. I agree that both Alex and DDK are logical choices ... but I wouldn't be surprised if Scott did it when they allowed him to skip a few episodes each year.

I'm a bit concerned about the articles I keep reading Alex is leaving the show. It seems to have gotten out of all proportion by one comment PL made saying McGarrett is reflecting on his near death experience and his job. Other writers following this comment have said he may leave to the latest he is leaving. Wish they would stop this speculation. I know it is to get hits on their websites but it is unnerving.

Other writers following this comment have said he may leave to the latest he is leaving. Wish they would stop this speculation. I know it is to get hits on their websites but it is unnerving. If this is someone who just has a fan website and not a legitimate reporter who fact checks what he/she writes, I wouldn't even consider it credible. I really don't think you could continue Hawaii Five-0 without Steve McGarrett and I seriously doubt they would recast the role to keep the show going. So until I actually hear PL or AO'L say that he's leaving the show, I'm not going to believe someone with a website who's just trying to get people to visit so he/she can show them a bunch of ads.

Alex talking about when he will finish with Five 0 and his contract www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/alex-oloughlin-on-his-hawaii-fiveo-exit/news-story/002b6f603f395e7bd7eb65298d77beaaHawaii Five-O's Australian star, Alex O'Loughlin, has revealed when he will quit the popular TV show. The actor is currently in the process of finishing season seven in the popular reboot of the original 1970s hit show, playing Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett. But it looks like this will be his penultimate season with the show. "I signed on for another two (seasons), which is this year and next year, series seven and eight, and I don't know if I can sustain any more than that just physically," O'Loughlin said. "I've taken so many physical hits on this show, my back is pretty bad and I've got a lot of fixing I've got to do. I've got to fix my body." The actor appears to kick off season seven with a chase scene involving some serious parkour moves over buildings through Hawaii. Looks can be deceiving, however, as most of the action work is done by stunt professionals. "Maybe 15 years ago I'd say `yeah I want to jump off that building' but I was 40 a couple of weeks ago so I kind of know my place. There are certain things you don't try to start doing at 40," he said. The show is not all about the action, the heart of the show is the relationship between O'Loughlin's character and his partner Danny Williams, played by Scott Caan. "Steve and Danny have been in therapy for a couple of years so they're making leaps and bounds," O'Loughlin said. "The wonderful thing about television as opposed to film is that it spans over years so you literally have years to work on these characters, therefore there is a natural ease between them on camera and that gets easier and easier." Aside from Steve and Danny, there's another very important character in the series. "We always said from the very beginning that Hawaii itself plays a character in the show and probably the most important character. To look at it vivid in high definition footage it's like `oh my God it's gorgeous'," he said. Despite the advantages of being in a long-running show, O'Loughlin still has an end date in mind for one specific reason. "I want to throw a football with my grandkids one day so I've got to be smart," he said. " I think if we get through these two seasons and finish with an eighth season I think it would be an incredible feather in all of our caps and something to be proud of so I'm just focused at the moment on getting through seven and making it into eight." *Hawaii Five-O is on Saturday at 8.30pm on Network Ten

If the show ends after 8 season it will be a great result. Of course, first, CBS must will order season 8, but if the ratings will be good, it is a formality. Besides we do not know if Alex does not change his mind in the future. He currently has a contract until season 8, and plans exit the show after season 8. Although I remember interview from a few years ago when Alex said he would like to make six seasons and exit, but apparently changed his mind (which confirms an interview from December 2015_. Besides, there is no guarantee that if they will order a season 8, it they would be order season 9. For now ratings is good but there is no certainty that in the season 8 also will be good. So it remains to enjoy the show, wait to order of the season 8, and then we'll see whether in fact this will be the end of the show.

Given that this thread started with this from PL:
Do you see an end to the series? I hope not. There are a lot of people who count on the job, so I hope not. I think we will be around for a while.
...I have to wonder how happy he is to hear Alex say that he'll do this season and one more. PL clearly sounds like he's hoping for more than that. But like you said, Core 4, Alex could change his mind. If CBS wants to go beyond S8 (and it sounds like PL thinks they'll be renewed for S8), they'll figure out a way to make it happen. Give him time off like Scott and don't make him such an action hero. That could be done. But we have to get through S7 and, hopefully, S8 before we have to worry about that.

It has now come to the point contracts are renewed on a 2 yearly basis. If there is a season 8 and CBS want to renew it pending on figures I do think they will find a way to keep Alex on board if he himself wants to continue. Alex hasn't said exactly he is quitting if and when 8 happens

Alex hasn't said exactly he is quitting if and when 8 happens He hasn't exactly said it but in that interview, he sure strongly suggests it. If they all originally signed for seven years as we were told, and now Alex is saying he signed for two more years, this year and next year, then somewhere along the way, that original contract must have been renegotiated, otherwise two more years would have been S8 and S9.
