Almost most of this season it was the top5 most-watched dramas on Cbs. In most episodes, H50 had better ratings than Blue Bloods, which not happened earlier. Only in last a few episodes ratings are worse. One of the reason are breaks that are long and frequent. Anyway, let's look at other tv show of CBS from other days this week. I would not rate h50 so bad:
Scorpion: 0.8, 5.47 million SWAT: 1.0, 5.67 million Criminal Minds: 0.9, 5.04 million NCIS: New Orleans: 0.9, 8.31 million SEAL Team: 0.9, 6.14 million
NCIS and Bull have better ratings, but this is the whole season.

Personally, I think that CBS hurts their own ratings by selling that CBS All Access subscription. I have three friends who've all told me that they don't have to watch on Friday nights now because they subscribe to CBS All Access. If that's three people I know, how many more are out there watching the show in a way that doesn't count in the ratings? It seems certain, based on hints from PL, that we're getting a 9th season. Perhaps CBS has other ways, like All Access, to assess how many people the show reaches.
Regardless, they still don't have a show they could move that would do better on a Friday night and it's doubtful that a new show would do as well. I doubt that the fluctuating ratings have anything to do with Chin and Kono being gone. For as many people as have said they miss them, there are just as many who like Tani and Junior. I'll admit that I was concerned about DDK and Grace leaving but I really enjoy the additions to the cast and don't really miss them at all.
Mandyblue, I thought you'd stopped watching. Saying it's not the same show from other seasons is something you really can't say without watching ... but given that I'm enjoying it more than the past few years, I take that as a compliment. I'm glad it's changed ... it was getting stale to me.

The show is in the TOP5 most watched dramas on CBS, and the most watched tv show on Friday on all networks. It speaks for itself. The only question mark was whether Alex wants to continue the series, and on SOTB he said he wants to. So the matter is clear. What to changes. Strangely, I do not miss Chin and Kono. Of course, when I watch videos on YT or old episodes, and I see them it's sad. But watching season 8 there is no impression that someone is missing. What's more, in my opinion Tani is a better character than Kono, and I know that many people think so. We have freshness. And Adam who has a bigger role (and without Kono) is a more interesting character than in the past, and we can see him more often with the team.

I am disappointed how they are writing Junior as well. I miss Chin a lot. I love Eddie he great. The whole restraint story is boring and not going anywhere.

Some recent drop can be the power outages on the East coast during the storm. I live in Va and basketball was on all evening. Same for next Friday.
