I wasn't sure where to post this but thought this would be the safest spot for it to land. I saw this commercial the other night, not knowing what a ruckus it has caused until I googled it to find the youtube clip to share with all of you.
Heck, the first thing I thought of when I watched this was... this little girl could be McGarrett's daughter!
Even down to the cargo shorts! ;D
Personally, I had no problem with this spot - my daughter, up until the past three years, wore basketball shorts down past her knees... every child is unique!

See what you mean. Indeed it will be "controversial" - meaning it will set off a firestorm of protest from the folks who want everybody to be like them. I think it's adorable.

So people are objecting because they don't like tomboys? That's hysterical.
Someone should maybe check to see if she keeps grenades in her toybox, though. ;D

Are these the same people that are worrying Shiloh (Brangelina's cute kid) is going to end up like Chaz Bono, because she's a tomboy? Get a life. I laughed at the end at the mom's sad look.

So the kid will get married in cargo pants instead.... maybe nice frilly white ones? Could be fun shopping for that.

I didn't see anything wrong with it, until the hype started.

I have seen this commercial and think it's cute--and yeah that could be McG's daughter....
Nothing wrong with white satin or silk cargo pants for a wedding.....or pink cammo tank tops.
Tomboys rock!
Also--I didn't know there was a ruckus about this commercial.......

Yeah, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that commercial. It's kinda cute. And it reminds me of my grandmother (kinda) she's all into fashion & pink stuff. I'm not so much into that. But she tries to get me to go shopping. Again, and again, to no avail. ;D

Sure sunnyirish! People over here felt that the mom was trying to push a stereotype and that she was looking down at her daughter because she was a tomboy.

People over here felt that the mom was trying to push a stereotype and that she was looking down at her daughter because she was a tomboy. I agree that the Mom is trying to push a stereotype onto her daughter. But also Tide company is portraying a sterotype as well. Most tomboys I know still love to wear girly clothes, but enjoy "boy" activities and toys better than the "girl" activities and toys. Besides if you push someone to wear a certain type of clothing, then it will only turn them off to it. Living proof here. Went to a Pentecostal school in Jr. high and couldn't wear pants no matter how cold it was and they wouldn't let us wear the long johns under our skirt uniforms either. To this day, I seldom wear dresses/skirts. My daughter likes playing with her older brother and does everything he does, she is a tomboy, but she also likes her dolls and such and when given the choice, will pick a dress over pants/shorts anyday. Besides, children that age will typically go through a stage where they only want to wear one outfit all the time, every day. That's normal! The controversy comes in because the Mom is implying that the daughter is not normal and she wishes that she was. Now about the little girl. To me she's a perfect balanace of Cat and Steve. Wish we knew her name so I could get some pictures of her. I know have a plot bunny that needs to go away and come back another day after I finish the one I'm working on right now. It needs to wait it's turn!
