There is a unique 9-11 celebration going on in my town today, and yes I am being sarcastic. It appears that there is currently a bomb threat in the town that I live in and half the town has been evacuated. To have it occur anytime is unnerving, but for it to have happened today of days is just scary. Thankfully it is on the other side of town from where I live, so we haven't been evacuated, but still this is very unnerving. Please keep us in your thoughts and I will update when I know more.

Oh my Dianna,
now that is not the way you are supposed to grieve and remember on such a day. Hopefully all will turn out as a false alarm. I will pray for you and your family to stay safe. Let us know how all turned out. Stay safe!

Oh, Diana, what a nightmare! I so hope everything is ok and it's a false alarm. I'm praying for your safety. I suppose today is a reminder that we should always be praying for our safety and thankful for every day we have.

Here is the latest that has been reported: Posted: 2:52 PM Last Updated: 30 minutes ago
BLANCHESTER,Ohio - Police and fire officials are investigating a explosive device found near the downtown area in Blanchester Sunday afternoon.
They say a man living on Cherry Street was digging in his backyard when he found a buried metal box with bullets and what he believed to be explosive materials. The Blanchester-Marion Township Fire District responded to the scene and believe the device to be a"C-4" explosive material. They are awaiting the Hamilton County Bomb Squad to arrive on the scene and dispose of the device.
In the meantime, police have evacuated a 2 block area around Cherry Street to keep residents safe should there be a problem.
Police and fire officials have established a one-block perimeter around the home and are awaiting the arrival of a bomb squad to help with the device.
9 News has a crew on the scene and will update this story throughout the afternoon.

Lovely. But it sounds like it'll just turn out to be a scare. We had a bomb threat where I live days after 9-11, they said bomb(s) had been planted in the subway system. So of course everyone that could stayed off it. Thankfully it was just a false alarm, but it was scary. So I hope it's the same for you guys.

At least it wasn't what seemed to be intentional, it just seemed to be buried, and accidentally found. Hope that everything gets back to normal soon for you, Di.
My boss was actually glad that 9/11 landed on a Sunday. Normally during the week of the anniversary, we end up with some little douche calling in a bomb threat that ends up evacuating our schools and in my case, means that I have to go through with the bomb team because of the nature of my lab. Zero fun.

So the bomb threat turned out to be not so dramatic? That is good to know. Bomb threats are no fun. Experienced three of them already, suffered through one evacuation.
We still have a lot of bombs from WW2 lying in the ground and from time to time they found one that hasn't exploded yet. The town I grew up in, suffered a lot of damage, almost 60% of the whole city was destroyed. All of it by bombs, no frontline fighting. A few years ago they found one very big and scary bomb under a pavement less than hundred meters away from my apartment. I had been walking on that pavement many, many times. That day I came back from school and was told that I couldn't get anywhere near my apartment. It took them several hours to defuse that thing. It was so rusty and unstable because of it's age. I was scared to hell that it would go off! Never do I want to experience that again!

darksea that's so true, it never fails that some idiot thinks it's fun to call in a bomb threat. Worse than the old pulling the fire alarm. Do they do it during exams? It happens here at the universities. Again, much more dramatic than simply pulling the fire alarm, and much more disruptive.
Twassbrake, what you told us is like something out of a movie... very scary.

It happens during exams, standardized testing, middle of a snowstorm when it it is freezing huevos outside, any excuse is better than none.

Twassbrake, what you told us is like something out of a movie... very scary. Well, I for one would be more than happy if it would have been just a movie. During evac itself I hadn't that much opportunity to think about it. I was more like, "Oh no not another bomb. If it goes off you need to find yourself a new apartment. Can't that happening anywhere else" Stupid thought I know, but I was more annoyed than really scared. It took me a day to digest that I had been walking over that spot daily. Was already back in my apartment, sitting on the coach when the bulb lit up. I was scared as hell when I made the connection. Needless to say what kind of beverage I was drinking that evening... It is not that these things are lying around in the open, but rather a few meters under the pavement in the ground. After the war ended, they got rid of all the bombs that were visible, but they didn't found all of them. And they are a real threat. 10-20% of all explosive devices that went down over Europe, didn't explode. Alone in Germany they are suspecting more than 100.0000 of those "Blindgänger" still in the ground. One or two of them are going off every year, just because they are old. And keep in mind that most of those bombs went down over highly populated areas as the Ruhrgebiet, Hamburg, Berlin. I don't want to imagine what will happen when one of those 1000-pound-bombs goes off there ..... *Shudder* War has a long breath. I wish people would keep that in mind before they start fighting!
