i'm going into my final year of massage therapy, and while there's a lot of people here in ireland looking for massages, i'm wondering about people getting massages in the states. is it popular in the states? are there jobs out there for that area? and how much is it to get one over in the states.
reason i'm asking is i'm planning at some point moving to the states when i'm done with college

Popular? I should say so. We've got a bunch of massage schools in Dallas, and therapists are around every corner. Not to say the market's saturated, though, because there's somebody wanting a massage around every corner. They cover a wide range of specialties, and while it's tricky for an individual to make a living at it, there are salons that offer body therapy of all kinds. And that's just Dallas. Maybe smaller towns in the more sparsely populated places, like Wyoming and Idaho, have less opportunity, but even there you'll find big hotels and resorts with spa services.
Go for it!

I started getting them to help with an old shoulder injury that I got from a car accident when I was a teenager. Now my massage therapist charges $30 US dollars for 30 Min and $50 US dollars for 60 min. Also, occasionally I will also go to the salon/spa where I get my hair cut and get a more fancy one as a treat. And actually I am schedule to get one of those in which they use heated bamboo in the massage in a couple of weeks. Now the ones associated with high end spas do tend to cost more, $75 to $100 for an hour. (You can see more here www.mitchellssalon.com/index.php/spa/services/massage) Though I do have to say that with me being in Cincinnati things tend to be cheaper here than in other parts of the country, especially the big cities like New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. If you want to see what it cost in those part I would suggest doing a Google search for a high end hotel as most of them also have spas associated with them and offer all kinds of massages and you can see what they charge. As for availability of jobs, there are tons of massage therapists here in the US. Some work independently in their own offices, some work at high end spas, some work with sports teams or at fitness clubs. Hope this helps.

That's about the same as here in Canada. And there are a lot of sports clinics that offer them, specialized for the particular type of injury.

Hey, you might end up in Hawaii and then we could have you as our H50 spy. . I know all the major resort hotels in Miami and Orlando have them, not to mention the cruise lines. Carnival is the largest here in Fl. if not the US, so maybe try their website. hey you could end up here in the cruise capital of the world, not a bad place to be.

I see people advertising for that around here pretty often. No idea what it is, but it must be popular enough.

It is expensive....you have massage therapists that work from home and charge you less when you pay them cash...... I had a weekend away in August and I thought that going to the mountains it would be cheaper to get a massage it actually was more expensive for a combination of 30 min facial & 1hr massage $140. The cosmetics industry here make a lot of money cos they incorporate the massages using products that cost heaps......and that is just one aspect....when my sister was in the US in july I got her to buy me some make up and perfumes....
