darksea, I hope everything went OK today for you. Like others have said, parenting has gone out the window and this day and age and enabling is now the norm. I am with 26 5/6 year olds daily and I can tell you over the years, I've seen it getting worse. I can't imagine how it is to deal with older children who believe they are equal to an adult and have no respect for others.

So. The little runt gets 6 months probation, no expulsion, weekly visits with his Juvenile Probation Officer, 6 months community service, and removal from any potentially dangerous subjects in all of his classes, this includes he will not be able to participate in science labs. He's limited in his participation in school events, and his is not allowed within 100 yards of me or my lab.
This now results in my principal walking me to my car or one of my good students walking me to my car every evening, and my car now gets parked between the principals vehicles. He hasn't threatened me since, other than texting threats. His parents called me a whiny cunt in court. They got nailed with contempt, but that was pretty much it.

I'm sorry to hear the outcome of your day in court Darksea. It galls me that the kid wasn't held to a higher standard - but I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering the sorry state of society lately.
As far as I'm concerned, the court is just another guilty party to enabling these nasty kids. Not holding this punk accountable is a travesty. And you're the one who has to suffer by changing the way you do things... something is wrong with that picture.

Boy, Darksea! I'm so sorry. I'm sure that an independent woman such as yourself hates having to depend on a principal or student in order to leave. I know that wouldn't sit well with me. I wish there was something we could do for you. How long does this have to be this way? What year is this student? This system is so messed up. It's beyond sad.

Oh, crap, this is sad. They don't really punish him, and instead make your life more difficult. I just can't tell you how sorry I am.
Community service. This means doing something he wouldn't mind doing anyway, somewhere pretty nice, that doesn't need his assistance. We used to get them at the library all the time, and in the job I had in the university copy/mail center. Mostly just a waste of our time trying to find them something to do.

The kid is freshman. They figure that I have to be under watch for at least a year.
I guess what really gets to me, is that now, I am watching all my kids very carefully, looking for signs that one of them is going to pop off. Even with all the protection, I keep waiting for the kid to pop out of the bushes to ambush, then having his parents aiding him. And to basically be treated like the bad guy, with no support from the actual administration, just my principal? To be treated like some whiny idiot, when hitting a school staff member is a class 2 felony.
You know the real kicker? I didn't even report the kid. I was going to let him get away with it, because I didn't want to ruin his life, I figured he was having a bad day, until he started to sexually harass my female students by playing boobie basketball with them, and told off other teachers. My principal was the one who saw the bruise and called the cops. And I am still treated like a bad guy. I could have hit the kid back, I didn't. Yet, now, I'm the scum. I'm the one who has to live in fear. I'm the one who gets to second guess myself.

Darksea, I'm very sorry to hear that the kid didn't get properly punished. Communtiy Service is a joke. He physically assaultet and hurt you. He should at least leave the school. As a freshman he is at what age? 13, 14 years old? Even if he is still a kid he should know right from wrong at his age now. And if not so, his parents and as a last instance the judge should show him. That is what they are there for! Apparently they failed in this case. It is not even a shame, it is more a scandal!
Like I said before, you are not the one who should feel bad. The kid should feel sorry, or at least his parents should be ashamed instead of cheering him up. It's more than sad that you now feel uncomfortable around not only this kid, but all of them. As a teacher you should be able to be open and carefree around kids and not doubting them any second. It's more than sad that they made you feel so. I really hope that one day you can find back to your old attitude.
Although it makes your life so much harder, I'm glad that the principal stands on your side and is protecting you. It's comforting to know that he at least has your back.
That said, if you ever feel like you must vent after a really bad day at school, you know you can always come here on this board and do so.

I managed to get today off. My principal figured I needed a day off, and just gave it to me. I think he's feeling bad about the school and the court's behavior.
Unfortunately, the film research industry has made its call today. So I get to work anyway. At least its in the comfort and safety of my home.

Don't second guess yourself, darksea.... that would be him winning, and he does not deserve that. Hopefully this has set an example to other students that this kind of thing will not be tolerated, will be taken to court, and will have consequences. I'm not surprised he's a freshman. He's probably used to some of the highschool girls allowing him to play boobie basketball (which is another sad topic).
