So i don't know how many of you know that i am unemployed until now. But i have been for a while, and i am a little rusty with putting together a good, professional resume. I have tried to find a updated resume template on Google but not sure of how business owners will view it. Does it matter what a resume looks like, how it is put together. Or does employers really do notice, and care?
Does anyone have any pointers or a good professional template?
Thank you.

Do you have Microsoft Word? They have downloadable resumes on there that I used that worked pretty well. Of course, it's been some time.
When it comes to resumes, substance within counts more than purty. If you can present yourself excellently, neat, spellchecked straight forward listings will be more than enough.

I guess my main question is about references. I have been told by some to put them down. I have been told by others to leave them off. Is anyone responsible for hiring at your work? What do you look for in a resume? Does anyone really call the references?

In my line of work they not only ask for references, its part of the background check. It depends on the job that you plan to apply for. I generally keep them in there, but make sure that the reference isn't going to screw me.

I did some hiring for a Fortune 500 company (among other things) and have seen thousands of resume's. The exact format doesn't matter, any of the online templates are fine. Keep it simple, neat,SPELLCHECK, be honest, no fluff. References upon request at the bottom is always good. Have a seperate attachment with the references listed, so if they do request it, you can produce it right away. Always call the day after an interview and thank them for their time and the opportunity to be considered. HR loves to be sucked up to, but not too much, beacuse we were always able to see through that. Present yourself in a professional, low key, manner and SMILE. If you make a good impression, they will keep you in mind, even if they don't give you that position, something may come up in the future and they just might call you. I have done that myself several times.
Good luck!
