guys remember i adore you all in here, and i love the states. great country n all. but after watching glee the other night, i was trying to figure out what was bugging me, and it was an obvious one. there's a new character on glee from ireland, he won the glee project, that's fine, i'm thrilled and he's fantastic singer. but one thing drives me bonkers is the way so called irish traits and accents in the states are blown way out of proportion in t.v shows. i really thought they wouldn't go down the leprechaun route with rory, seriously. lucky charms, pot of gold, mammy?? mammy? are you kidding me. know it's a t.v show, but come on people, yes we are a friendly bunch and love our fun. i was just hoping they wouldn't go down that route to be honest. end rant.

Ahhhh sunny, welcome to the club! If I would work myself up everytime american TV pulls out some cliche about Germans and Germany, I would've probably long ago suffered a heart-stroke. American TV love their cliche. That's how it works. They can't help themselves. Sorry, my american friends out there. No offense! Big huggy your way sunny!

That's American television. It distorts everything. There are way more blonde women on TV than in real life. But I understand how frustrating it is to see the stereotype.

Big huggy your way sunny! twassbrake, I am 5/8 German and if the subject of my background comes up, I still see that funny look, that sort of, "oh, invaded any small countries recently?" look . It's just weird.

ohhhh that cliche. poor germany and the other cliche of beer girls with those dresses and with big pints in their hands. it's just the accent, now to be fair, that's actually rory's accent which is northern irish, but there some i've heard, eeek. alex's one in august rush was grand. half way between the aussie accent of his and an actual irish one.

and you are joined by the sexy señorita and the Latin lover stereotype. No matter what part of South America (or even Spain) we come from, we all dress in big sombreros, have Mexican accents and eat tortillas, and are druglords who take siesta after lunch.

snip ... lucky charms, pot of gold, mammy?? mammy? are you kidding me. snip Mammy? That's what we called my great-grandmother! We call my grandmother Mam-Maw and my great-grandmother didn't like that term, so she asked that her grandkids and great-grandkids call her Mammy, so we did. We called my great-grandfather Pa. And this was in Mississippi. So when I hear the term Mammy, I think the South (USA).

I know how you all feel...Even though I was born in Australia having an ethnic background and being different was all that the true aussies needed to put me in my place...I hated when they tried to impersonate my greek background by making fun...When the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding came out it was sooooo over the top that everybody assumed that greeks were like that all over the world...Well here in Australia we are so very different...Getting put in a category because of the whole generalization because of race, religion or whatever made you different...Truly ticks me off...Never Judge A Book By It's Cover is something I constantly remind people even today.....

No matter what part of South America (or even Spain) we come from, we all dress in big sombreros, have Mexican accents and eat tortillas, and are druglords who take siesta after lunch. There is actually a less colorful but more pervasive and damaging attitude about Latinos in baseball. Latino players are often criticized for their expressiveness and held to a higher standard. A white player can be a so-so player defensively or offensively and get away with it, simply by virtue of not being Latino.
