Hiya,
Couldn't find a thread about this, probably on another page and sorry if it's been done.
Probably my biggest passion except for H50 and my little dog, family and friends is music.
So what floats your boat music wise?
I'm just watching a documentary on the BBC4 about Prince. Adore him. Living in Liverpool, of course i love The Beatles.
Big fan of lots of others though, Take That (not so big in the US I don't think), Fleetwood Mac, early Michael Jackson, Madonna (early days too), Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, Five for Fighting, loads of girl bands and random boy bands and so much more. Love the odd musical too.
The only thing i really can't bear is country and western, even then I love Islands in the Stream.
How about you?

I forgot JLS. I do love them. Got a massive thing for Marvin. :S
Never quite got into Westlife. Though I love their cover of 'what about now' and I quite like 'world of our own'.

Wow, lots of stuff I've never heard of. My favorites (in no particular order, except the Beatles are definitely first): Lots of classical: Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Debussy, Ravel, and tons else, plus opera, which can be tough to love. Rock/pop: Beatles, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, early Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, King Crimson, 60s psychedelic stuff, Blue Oyster Cult, Jethro Tull, Cat Stevens, Def Leppard, Heart, Metallica, Judas Priest, all kinds of 80s metal, other 80s stuff, Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Loreena McKinnett, and a lot else. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Wow, that's some wonderful music there, everyone.
I like me a bit of Led Zep too, goldberry. And Heart too. Wow, I forgot them. Don't fear the reaper by Blue Oyster Cult is fantastic, brought to my attention by Supernatural.
LS1628, love Time is running out by Muse and a couple of others. And Queen were brilliant.
An artist I completely forgot about is Janelle Monae. She did an amazing set at the Glastonbury festival over here in June. Really brilliant.

I saw them in 1983, at Radio City Music Hall. Started collecting them after that. I just saw Heart in July, opening for Def Leppard. They did a fantastic cover of Zep's "Battle of Evermore", along with their own stuff.

As it happens I had already considered ranking my Pandora stations list:
1. Early music (medieval and Renaissance) 2. English folk music (Don't read "Celtic" into that - although Celtic is marvelous, I'm talking about English. Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, The Albion Band, Ashley Hutchings and his many projects...) 3. Bluegrass/cajun/zydeco (I have to put them on a level because I can't separate them by level.) 4. Sea chantys and sailor songs, plus cowboy songs (NOT country or country/western.) 5. Big band 6. African, of various sorts 7. Bossa Nova 8. A mishmash of other stuff including Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Leon Redbone...
Mind you, this is all over a baseline of rock, which of course is part of the DNA but which isn't what I listen to most. Usually just in the car, if there's nothing on NPR.

Ok, let Musicfreak have a say in my favorite topic which I bet you can never guess. I'm going to stick out like a sore thumb here, but my favorite type of music is country! I love Carrie Underwood, who is my favorite. Taylor Swift Keith Urban Brad Paisley The Band Perry Shania Twain Sugarland Colbie Caillat Darius Rucker Jason Aldean Rascal Flatts Lady Antebellum is ok. Tim McGraw I have loved Bon Jovi since I can remember. I've had a crush on Jon since forever! I also like Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry is surprisingly good. David Cook is pretty good. I feel like I'm missing so much music I listen to, but that's all I can think of right now!

Also I like pop stuff, 50's & 60's music (actually I never really got out of that era)
The Irish Tenors And I'm going to admit to enjoying Broadway musicals.

I'm a huge music fan. I guess rock is my favorite, everything from classic, to prog, to metal, pop-rock, alternative, whatever. I also love jazz, classical and electronic/industrial, some hip-hop and rap. Not a huge fan of disco or country, but I do like Johnny Cash and a little Merle Haggard or Hank Williams (my dad is all about country music). Some of my favorites: Led Zeppelin Metallica Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson Tool/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer Portishead Alice In Chains/Jerry Cantrell Yes Soundgarden Pearl Jam Dalek Public Enemy Rage Against the Machine Nirvana Queens of the Stone Age Kyuss Jeff Buckley Pink Floyd King Crimson U2 (early stuff) I could go on and on .

MUSIC - YES - Just me and my iPod!!!
I love country music - new country and older country - but not the real 'twangy' stuff. I also love the 'oldies' - 50's, 60's and early 70's music. There's a radio station here that plays stuff from that time frame all the time. And I hate to admit it, but at Christmas time, I enjoy listening to Dean Martin and Bing Crosby - reminds me of Christmas music my parents played and enjoyed for many years!
