I received a call Thanksgiving night from one of the other Admins on my Bonanza website. It seems that she was deleting spambots(bots that impersonate people and register) on our website - she pushed the wrong button and has now wiped out all 1200 members, including the administrators!  So even if they went in and re-registered, no one was able to approve them since no one has any permissions! So we've spent this long weekend trying desperately to restore the forum to its pre-delete state; unfortunately, things have not gone well(providers are on skeleton crews for the holiday) and our members are in a full blown panic. Thank goodness for our Facebook page so we can keep them updated. So please cross fingers, toes, eyes, etc., that we can get some help from our host and that they have a backup of the forum pre-delete button so we don't have to start from scratch and add back people's post counts and badges they've accrued over the years. If that happens, I think I'll be drinking all the egg nog I can find.  I'm putting this in the 'Never Believed it Could Happen' column, that's for sure.  |

Oh dear. Reminds me of a quote from Bill Bryson: "It occurred to me that a computer is a stupid machine with the ability to do incredibly smart things, while computer programmers are smart people with the ability to do incredibly stupid things. They are, in short, a perfect match." You'd think someone might have put in an 'are you sure you want to delete your entire membership' prompt (much in the same way that my computer triple checks just about everything I ask it to do, because it obviously doesn't trust me).

hugs to you. Hopefully you are able to recover all the data. Like Lissy said, you would think that there are failsafes to prevent something like that, or at least let the admins rights intact. *Shaking Head* Keep us updated!

Oh sportsmom I truly feel for you....I hope somehow it all works out for you and everyone......and to what twassbrake said you would think there was failsafes to prevent these things from happening.....Keep your chin up and think happy thoughts....sending you a really big bear hug because I think you really need one..  ..

OMG I can't believe some people telling us that he is dead I was shocked and then I was like no one else has reported anything so it's not true....
goldberry thank you for that article can't believe he had to show proof of life....Am so glad that he is well.......
