Never thought I'd go to a Hawaii Five-0 board for this, but... I'm looking for some travel tips.
My friend and I will be going to Italy this summer (late June and early July). We're going over with my choir for a music festival, but want to stay a few extra days on our own to see Florence and Rome. I have a guide book, but was wondering if any of you would have suggestions for nice places to stay and places "not to miss" (other than the standard tourist attractions) in both cities. Also looking for restaurant suggestions, etc.
Since we are both middle-aged, and not into the "back-pack and stay in hostels" bit any more, we're looking for nice places, but not glamorous (5-star) type.
Thanks for your help!

If you're going to Rome, don't miss the Capuchin cemetery at the church of Santa Maria della Concezione on the Via Veneto, one of the most macabre and bizarre things I've ever seen! And the Colosseum is touristy but worth it.
