My crafty hobby is crocheting.
My exercise hobby is figure skating. Yes, folks, you can still do it as an adult and it's never too late to learn.

A friend of mine gave me ice skating lessons for Christmas--she thinks I spend too much time online talking to all of you! We haven't started yet (she's going to learn, too.), but it should be fun. Otherwise, I play The Sims (still just the original) and I hope to start making objects and skins (that's the sims themselves) for it soon.

My mother taught me when I was very young. I was the same. You can pick it up again pretty quickly from books with pictures. Just start with a simple pattern and work your way up.

Yes indeed, that's how it happens. People work so hard for so long, first from promoting it at home to put in to be a candidate city, then, the work to be in the running. Then you're chosen as host city, and it's a huge milestone, and then the long 7 years to Opening Ceremonies. My friend in Atlanta told me how it was for them, and when I was there it was amazing to see how the spirit had overtaken the whole area. Fantastic.

Wow! I love this thread. I'm afraid that I have too many hobbies. Because I have more down time than I want to have, I have learned a lot of different crafts over the years. The funny thing is that I don't do any of them as often as I used to a year ago because my main hobby now is visiting with all of you and watching Alex in 5-0 and Moonlight.
I've played the piano since I was 4 years old. So, that's my passion and biggest hobby. I used to teach piano lessons a long time ago.
I'm a scrapaholic. I love scrapbooking pictures of my kiddos, and my kiddos love to look at their scrapbooks with me. And, my daughter is old enough now that she is starting to scrapbook with me. Lots of fun!! I also make cards and little gift boxes and bags, but my favorite papercraft is scrapbooking. See, I used to sell Stampin' Up so I had to learn how to do everything.
I'm an avid crocheter. I love to crochet anything and everything... from doilies to afghans to bookmarks to clothing to you name it. I'm currently working on a fashion scarf that is very unique. I saw a picture of one in a catalog and thought I want that. Now, my mom and sister-in-law want one, too. I don't know if I want to make that many. We'll see. I suppose it depends on how much guilt they lay on me.
I also enjoy knitting dishcloths. I have a huge pile of all kinds of colors. If any of you really like knitted dishcloths, just let me know. I can send you some. I haven't knitted anything else but dishcloths. I've tried socks, but can't get pass the first row. So, if anyone has any pointers, I would really covet your advice and experience.
I also sew, but I can't say that I love sewing. It's just one of those things that since I know how to do I find myself doing it because it's so handy and personal. I also find my family likes that I can do it so they give me all kinds of projects and mending crap to do. I guess sewing would not fit on my hobby list. It's more of a task. I think if I got to make beautiful quilts and unusual gifts then I would love to do it. Oooooo, I do have one sewing project about which I'm really excited. I've just got to tell you all and see what you think. I bought material to make a black purse and a jean purse and several different colored scarves to go around the top of the purses. The scarves will be interchangeable so I can match my outfit. I'll make loops that look similar to belt loops and that is where the scarves will go. One of the scarves is black and white with a little pink and red in it, kind of a subtle pop on the black purse or a way to dress up the jean purse especially with black boots and a black jacket. I'm so excited to see how this turns out. Can you tell? I'm writing another book here where you all shared one thing. I'm sorry. I get so excited about these subjects. I would love to share patterns or here what you all have made.
Some of you lead such fascinating lives. Sailing, horses, and knowing everything about the olympics, and figure skating. I would love to see pics of your horses or boat or the water. Marg, I'm probably going to bug you with questions when the olympics start. LS, I love thrift stores, too. I've gotten so many deals and specialty items. You walk away with this amazing feeling of satisfaction, don't you.
Goldberry, I'm very curious about what The Sims is. Would you feel like explaining that to me, please?

Scarlarose, The Sims is a computer game. "Sims" are "simulated" people. It's sort of like playing with dolls and dollhouses, but in the computer. I only started playing because I got it free with a computer I bought in 2002. I only play the original Sims, which I don't think Maxis/Electronic Arts even makes anymore. I never got interested in 2 or 3.
The first game gives you one neighborhood with ten houses or lots. You can use the houses that are provided, build your own, or get them from other players. You can also use the families that are provided or make your own. Then there are the expansion packs, which add more places for Sims to live and places for them to visit. There are goals for your sims in the game--basically get on a career track and get to the top, but I'm more interested in decorating houses and creating interesting families--for instance I have a Middle Earth neighborhood and a fictional character neighborhood and I have ideas for more. Hope that makes some sense.
