From CBS Press Express: On Friday, CBS moves an established drama to the middle of the lineup to strengthen a winning night. At 8:00 PM, the Emmy Award-winning and time period leader UNDERCOVER BOSS returns. The popular drama HAWAII FIVE-0 establishes a new beachhead at 9:00 PM, leading perfectly into BLUE BLOODS, the top-rated series of the night, at 10:00 PM.

So, this isn't just for the summer months, but will be permanent in the fall. Wow. Well, it should fit well with Blue Bloods, and I would guess will take the place of CSI:NY, which I don't think is coming back.
Some viewers think of Fridays as the dreaded 'death slot', but it works for me, so I have no issues with it myself.

I don't have any problems with Friday night either. I don't think it is a death sentence either. So many people watch shows on their DVRs now that I feel it does not matter what day it is on. However I 'm not sure how many if any more seasons we will have after next year. But now that it is on earlier I am more likely to watch it live and also because it is on Friday night and I don't have to go to work the next day.

I think it will be great paired with Blue Bloods, and away from a comedy show.

I think it will be great paired with Blue Bloods, and away from a comedy show. I agree. I also remembered, if memory serves, the tv show JAG was moved from Tuesdays to Fridays in 2003 so that NCIS could be shown. And JAG lasted 2 years. Hopefully, H50 will last until after it hits a 100 episode, that would be way cool.

I think it's a good move - Mondays weren't kind to H50 this season. I think it will work out.

I think it will do fine on Friday nights being tied in with "Blue Bloods", I just would have preferred it moving to Tuesday after NCIS and NCIS:LA. Since it has a connection to LA, it would have been cool to see another crossover possible with back to back episodes, and H5o probably would have gotten more viewers from the NCIS crowd since they are styled very similarly.

Oh no!!! Not Friday!! I am so unhappy with a Friday night time slot. I wish they would reconsider another day but not Friday. I am worried that people will not watch much TV at the beginning of the weekend. I hope it is not the end of 5-0.

Hi Everybody, I haven't had been here in quite a while as RL has been super busy, however based the news from CBS today re: the new night and time for H50 this fall I thought I would offer my perspective, right or wrong.
While many people have proclaimed the move to Fridays at 9pm to be a death sentence for H50, I'd just like to throw out a couple of thoughts:
1) H50 has struggled at 10pm on Mondays due to weak lead-in from CBS comedies and consequently very tough competition at 10pm as a result of the extremely strong lead-ins from ABC (DWTS 13M viewers LW) for Castle and NBC (The Voice 11M viewers LW) for Revolution. The Monday CBS comedies often command the same or even fewer viewers as the lead-in for H50 - generally btw 7-9M viewers which puts H50 at an extreme disadvantage from the outset. Clearly changes needed to be made on Mondays for CBS to remain competitive.
2) The H50 move to Friday actually makes sense on several levels: - Teaming H50 up with Blue Bloods which regularly gets 10M+ viewers and is a more similar genre to H50 than the Monday comedies, could actually help the ratings. A 2 hour scripted crime fighting drama block on Friday night vs The Shark Tank, Grimm 20/20 and Dracula on ABC/NBC seems like softer competition. - Since the ratings/demo expectations bar is set somewhat lower for Friday night shows due to viewership being generally lower, this move could also benefit H50 by giving it a longer life down the road.
3) Friday night is NOT always the beginning of the end for a show. Case in point, BLUE BLOODS. This show has been successful on Fridays from the very beginning. While the demos are considerably lower (as expected) than that of shows airing Mon-Thurs, it consistently wins it time period and almost always attracts double the number of viewers vs it's competition - this has to count for something in the ever shrinking viewership numbers for broadcast TV. In addition, there have been other successful Friday shows-NUMBERS ran successfully for 6 years on Friday nights.
While no one knows how this day/time shift will impact H50, I do believe that staying on Mondays would have meant certain cancellation, most likely, sooner rather than later. DWTS and The Voice are still the lead-ins for anything airing at 10pm on Monday and right now that means Castle on ABC and the most buzzed about new show on NBC, The Blacklist, with James Spader.
We can all fuss and fret about the day/time move, but since we have no idea what the fall TV season will bring, I am just taking comfort in the fact that there will be a S4 of H50.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful spring and is excited to see how S3 of H50 wraps up next Monday.
Thanks for letting me wax on. Mahalo

Hi musicfreak and nycgal good to see you here again. I agree with everything nycgal has said more people will watch it live now as they don't have to get up the next morning and on 1 hour early. Plus Blue Bloods have done well on fridays.

Hey, NYCgal, glad to see RL has giving you the chance to come visit us here. You have been missed. You're right. It won't do any good to 'fuss and fret' about this schedule change, and we should all be glad there will be a S4. I know I am. Personally, I think the move was wise on CBS' part and Friday does not have to be the beginning of the end.... that's what DVR is for.

Can I just take a moment and say - hopefully without detracting from the thread's topic - how good it is to see everyone here and posting. The board has been so quiet lately and it's just good to see so much activity here.

Welcome back Musicfreak and nycgal, nice to see you posting again. From a personal perspective, I'm quite happy with the Friday move. I'm out Monday nights (and tuesdays and wednesdays), so my choices for H50 viewing have been to watch it late Monday night (after midnight, and be a zombie at work next day), or avoid the board and all other related sites so I am not completely spoiled before I can catch it on Tuesday. It will be nice to watch it live Friday evenings. Call me devil's advocate (or Debbie Downer if you prefer ) but I'm not quite as hopeful as some of you that a Friday move will be beneficial for the show. Yes, Numb3rs and Blue Bloods have been successful there, but they started there and found their faithful Friday audience at the beginning. It's possible that H50's current audience won't move with the show, and new viewers won't want to jump into the middle of an established show. Also, I can't speak for Blue Bloods (I don't watch it) but Numb3rs was a different style of crime procedural. Less shoot-em-up action, more family-oriented stuff. I suspect this may appeal more to the older viewers who are more likely to be at home watching TV on Friday nights. So I don't imagine H50 will get good 18-49 numbers in this new slot. I hope the show can chug along for a couple more years, on Friday or some other time. I agree some kind of move was called for, Monday nights didn't seem to be working out so well. Anyway, as you all say, no point in fretting. I will enjoy S4, and hope for more!

I don't have a problem with Friday nights because I'm generally home. However, it IS my "Say Yes To The Dress" night, so I'm a little annoyed about that.
