Here are the preliminary ratings for last night's episode:
ABC Castle 2.5 (18-54 Demo) 12.562 (Million Viewers) CBS Hawaii Five-0 2.3 (18-54 Demo) 9.240 (Million Viewers) NBC Smash 1.9 (18-54 Demo) 5.918 (Million Viewers)
"Hawaii Five-0 fell to a new series low, earning only a 2.3 vs. last week's 2.5 adults 18-49 rating." -- Okay, what the heck is going on here??? I can't imagine the Catherine becoming a member of the team story could have impacted things this fast.
Though in all fairness since I do watch both shows I have to say that last night's season finale of Castle was one heck of ride that has been four years in the making. Especially since Castle and Beckett finally admitted to their feeling for one another and caved to their passions, so that might have had something to do with the ratings. Plus, we will have to how the DWTS run over might have impacted things, when the final numbers come out later today.

Thanks Diana, I was worried when I saw the Castle Finale promo that H50 would lose out .

Yikes. That was Castle's season finale though, right? If so, hopefully next week the numbers will improve.

Yes, last night was Castle's season finale, but the problem is, and don't quote me as I am not positive, but I think next week is the finale with DWTS and usually they will run that show from 8-11pm for it's finale, which would put it up against H50, which isn't good at all.

I hope season 3 focus more on the story and character development and bring in the classic series elements rather then some mindless action stuff

Hi Di, I just Googled it and DWTS season finale is scheduled to air May 22nd. So at least the H50 season finale does not have to go up against DWTS - it's tough enough going up against Castle when DWTS is the lead in.

Low ratings surprised me since it was AOL's 1st ep back, all the hype on the social media and this being the 2nd to last episode of the season. I'll be more worried next week if they don't significantly rise with Castle out of the way.

these ratings really surprised me. i would think that having AOL back would bring them up. sorry i'm not into warm and fuzzies unless it's part of life and H50 reminds of life. more entertaining in my opinion.

Here are the final numbers: CBS Hawaii Five-0 2.3 (18-49 Demo) 9.390 (Million Viewers) you guys are right this is low. Something I found interesting, I added up all of this seasons ratings and divided it by the number of episodes as of right now and came up with a rating average of 10.26 for the season. Hopefully next week the numbers will go up and the average will be a little higher than this. Here's hoping.

I can't help but look at the season as a whole and think about the whole aspect of momentum. I don't know if anyone will agree with me, but I tend to think that the show never got the opportunity to build any momentum and lost the chance to gain a decent share of new viewers this season because of the whole Lori mess. Those Forgetful Fifteen episodes pretty much killed any chance of the show building on what made it successful in Season 1. If the show had remained true to what we all enjoyed, I think there would've been a much better chance of gaining viewers and holding them all season long - perhaps resulting in better ratings than we've seen this season.

That does sound reasonable to me. I would also add that by the time the show was getting back to good Lori-less episodes, those episodes were scattered among numerous early season reruns, which never allowed for any momentum to be built up in the latter half of the season either. That said, I had hoped that the slight uptick in the numbers last week, combined with another brand new ep the very next week, might have resulted in a bit higher overall viewership for this ep.

Completely agree! I know people who quit watching after the Danny-Rachel pregnancy fiasco. They didn't like what was happening to Danny's character then there were mass defections with the Lori mess. Just going from people and comments on Livejournal people got sick of Lori, the poor writing and the "white washing" of the show. Seemed when some were coming back, the same day as the 222 epic they drop the news that Catherine would be made a team member. Not that the news would have affected ratings, but yet another distraction. Many comments about Lori2.0 and that was from those who like Steve/Cath relationship. Yeah no momentum or traction at all this season and too many divisive comments from TPTB that tore apart the fandom. Not a lot of positive vibes until late in the season. Seems like those in power keep shooting themselves in the foot. Bottom line is that the show did veer from what made it successful and the show and ratings suffered for it.

I hope season 3 focus more on the story and character development and bring in the classic series elements rather then some mindless action stuff Hate to burst that bubble but I'm pretty sure we're unlikely to see "classic series elements" in the new H5-0. Today's audience, in general, doesn't want to see that ... and those who do can always watch the original's DVDs. Mostly, the O-riginal is just too tame by current standards.
