Here are the preliminary ratings from TVbyNumbers which are more accurate than my estimates for those watching live (i.e. doesn't account for DVRs) for last nights episode. Now realize that the first half an hour of Castle will probably be lowered slightly when the final ratings come out later today day due to the overrun of Dancing with the Stars. Unfortunately, it probably won't be by a million viewers, so this is really not good that beat H50 by a million viewers in the second half. Let's really pray that we don't have a dramatic drop off of viewers after the addition of the new team member next week or we could really be in a world of hurt. On a bright note though, it doesn't appear that the Playboy Club is going to be much competition. (The numbers in bold are the number of viewers in Millions, the 18-49 rating is the demo most wanted by advertisers so higher that is the better for your show. Also the first set of numbers is the average viewers for the whole hour and the second set break it down for each individual half hour. ) Time Net Show 18-49 Rating Viewers (Millions) 10:00 CBS Hawaii Five-0 (Season Premiere) 3.4 12.00 ABC Castle (Season Premiere) 3.3 13.60 NBC The Playboy Club (Series Premiere) 1.6 5.01 Half Hours 10:00 CBS Hawaii Five-0 (Season Premiere) 3.7 12.57 ABC Castle (Season Premiere) 3.4 14.35 NBC The Playboy Club (Series Premiere) 1.7 5.28 10:30 ABC Castle (Season Premiere) 3.1 12.86 CBS Hawaii Five-0 (Season Premiere) 3.1 11.42 NBC The Playboy Club (Series Premiere) 1.6 5.01

Even if Castle beats it, isn't it still a high rating for CBS? They don't have anything else better, do they?

We're not that far behind Castle.

That's what I mean - they're not beating Castle, but they are beating everyone else, and we're not so far behind, so for CBS, HF-0 is still an important show. Who knows, maybe people will start to get bored of Castle.

The one thing you have to remember about CBS is that if it isn't at the head of the line, they don't want it. They cancelled a show just a few years ago, because it slipped a few thousand people in the ratings. (Moonlight) and because the show didn't win its timeslot in the 18-49 female demographic (Jericho).
The one thing that I am hearing that is good is that H-50 did edge Castle in the important demographic. Barely.

I've been seeing that the ratings are down 51% from last year's premere, and 14% down from the season finale, and 21% down from the average.

I've seen many comments on various facebook pages, where people are asking "when does the new season start" maybe that had something to do with it? I'm just afraid our show's in trouble it's easier to speculate about it, but now that the seasons started, it's becoming a real possibility...it's scaring me...

Sophmore shows always take it in the rear, because they are more interested in making their new shows survive. NCIS:LA also had a drop last year when it started.

The highly-anticipated season premiere of TWO AND A HALF MEN, featuring the first episode with Ashton Kutcher, delivered the series' largest audience and best adult 18-49 rating ever, leading CBS to a Monday win in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Sept. 19.
Leading off the night, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (P) was first in adults 25-54 (5.3/13), adults 18-49 (4.7/13), adults 18-34 (4.3/14), second in households (6.8/11) and viewers (11.01m). Following TWO AND A HALF MEN, the series premiere of 2 BROKE GIRLS (P) was first in adults 25-54 (8.6/18), adults 18-49 (7.1/16), second in households (11.5/16) and viewers (19.37m). CBS was also a hit online, with CBS.com posting a record-breaking day of traffic. The site, which features photos, videos and interactive content about the highly anticipated Monday night line-up, was up 100% to nearly 2 million unique users.
Traffic was driven by TWO AND A HALF MEN, which was the top-visited prime-time program on CBS.com and also posted the highest single-day of traffic ever for an individual show. Monday also marked CBS.com's single highest daily social referrals in the site's history, a testament to the success of the Network's popular Tweet Week event as well as the popularity of CBS's Facebook pages for its leading shows.
Note: DVR penetration is at 42%, up from 38% last year. Last Fall, Live+7 audiences for original entertainment series on CBS gained over 1.8 million viewers, on average, over Live+ Same Day ratings, more than any other network. This season, we expect DVR penetration to continue to increase and, as a result, we expect DVR playback audiences to grow to as well.

Isn't that the best news. I'm glad we're at least going into the season strong so if the ratings drop after Hoochie is introduced it may not hurt quite so badly than if we started off already behind in the runnings. Does this make sense, or am I confused about the whole ratings scene?
Okay, when I wrote the above, I had only read the ratings that Darksea posted immediately above. I had not read the ratings that Dianno posted in the very beginning. I'm so confused. Did 50 not do very well? Please let me down gently because I'm feeling very scared right now.

You're a little confused about the ratings, CBS only wants winners. The press release is them trying to make their Monday sound strong, it's called 'press spin'.

So, does this mean that in reality the talk in their offices isn't as positive as what they say to the press?

In reality, their show came in second place, and that isn't going to make them happy. Now, the ratings numbers are still good, they are not horrible, they are still comparable to the second half of the season from last year.
