According to Mike Gordon with the Honolulu Star Advertiser it appears that SOTB 3 is currently in limbo.
@crankydad:Also, #H50 fans, CBS today said there is still no decision on SOTB3. Hang in there.

Question: Isn't the Teen Choice Awards around the same time that Season 3 Episode 1 airs? And isn't #H50 nominated for approx. 3 or 4 awards for that night?

Do you possible mean the primetime Emmy's which are Sunday Sept 23rd the night before the season 3 premiere of H50? Also, remember that AOL is still scheduled to participate in the Tough Mudder competition in Lake Tahoe, CA that weekend (Sept. 22-23) also. Now they could do like they did last year and push SOTB back a week (Sept 15-16th) but then you have to live with any big surprises (i.e., Jenna working for Wo Fat) being leaked ahead of time, since there is absolutely no way to keep the 1000s of fans who attend from tell their friends and family what occurs and then it is off to the races from there.

Didn't know that the teen choice awards were Sunday. As for the Emmy's don't know about that one.
There is probably another possibility, CBS probably doesn't want leaks like last year with the revealing of Jenna Kaye working for Wo Fat. They (CBS) have also had trouble about two or three wks ago with the deleted scenes from season two being leaked as well.
It would be nice to see interviews from SOTB this Season but if that doesn't happen, then everything will be a suprise for everyone.

They could have SOTB 3 maybe on Friday the 21st Sept. Then Alex can do Tough Mudder competition on the weekend. Then there will only be 3 days until Hawaii Five 0 starts on the monday.

I do wonder whether the ending being leaked last year is playing a major part in it , some people might not watch the premier if they know what happens and I would guess that they want big veiwing figures for a season premier.

or money might be another possibility. while having this event is great for the fans, but it might not be for state.

or money might be another possibility. while having this event is great for the fans, but it might not be for state. And the more popular the show becomes--the bigger the crowds--and therefore more cost for extra cops for crowd control and whatever else....

Here is an update from Mike Gordon:
Mike Gordon @crankydad: #H50 fans, I checked again today with CBS about the fate of SOTB3 and I was told there is still no decision yet. I'll keep asking.

Originally this was done as a Thank you to the people of Hawaii. Now people are flying in from around the world. Was the intention to have this every year? I would think that eventually the crowds would get so big that they would have to stop it. The area where they hold this event is not a large space. It seemed big watching on line, but in person it was not that big. They were showing a movie this summer on SOTB which occurs every week, and it was so crowded. This was just a movie (MI2) with no celebrities and you couldn't get through the area. I can't even imagine what it would be like for H50. They may be planning on doing it but are purposely waiting to announce it as late as possible to make it difficult for people to fly in and therefore weed out the crowd a little.
I am sure that an announcement will be made soon and if its a NO, the twitterbots are going to freak out.

Holy Toledo. "First come, first served" does not mean the same as RSVP. Announcing this over a month in advance is an invitation to chaos. A lot of people won't read past "free event, open to the public" and they'll be making their plane reservations on the spot. The place will be deluged. I don't know how the roads are around there but compared to SOTB there will be a traffic jam of epic proportions.

You just know people are going to show up and be upset that they couldn't fit in. SOTB is held on the widest part of Waikiki beach and you all saw from the video feed how crowded that got. The upside ( for the planners ) is that there may be less people because its a Monday, and no stars will be there. Should be interesting to hear the aftermath

Yeah, this might not end well unless they've organized this with the residence and HPD.

But you see Marg they don't care all they want is to have this event and at the same time look like big shots.Should prove interesting how this ends up.
