I hate our athletics department. They get all the money, and my department gets screwed. I love to watch them fail. We have an uncompleted 1.2 million dollar field, but still just had to lay off 37 teachers.

Is there going to be anything left of Texas to cool down? From what I'm hearing, it's burning down faster than it can dry up. The fires are still coming but less huge. The Bastrop fires of the past week were the worst but are contained enough that the news leads with the news about the RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! RAIN! IT'S RAINING!!! Not very much here but at least it's right here, on my house my very own house it's been raining for 45 minutes or so hooray, bounce bounce bounce maybe the poor monkey grass will perk up. There's some footage on the news of a real downpour somewhere and the radar map has us right here in the tan-moderate range, hooray!

We used to post the sports teams color posters of fierce-looking hulks - who couldn't play their way out of a wet paper bag. And alumni still pour money down that drain.

Yep, that's exactly us, except its not the alumni, it's the school board.
And the home team lost 36-27. Which is pretty good considering that they were hydroplaning across the field, and this is the first game of the year that didn't have to be called off in the 3rd quarter by the mercy rule.
1.2 million dollar astroturf field improperly installed. 1 seriously bad team that can't play if their lives depended on it. 12 straight hours of cold, misty rain. Priceless.

We have an uncompleted 1.2 million dollar field, but still just had to lay off 37 teachers. Wow! I can't imagine how mad that made you. That's so wrong! This is why the U.S. schools keeps sinking lower and lower in the international ranks for education, etc. I get sickened by all the attention that sports and athletes get, the small scale picture of a high school all the way up to the pros in every sport... always have, always will. In our area we have schools that have to have the state step in because their academic grades are so low, but they have great sports teams and new fields. I'm going to stop now before I really get started. BTW, I'm not connecting fitness and exercising and general hobbies in this thinking. Those are healthy and very much needed in life. Oh, and since we are in the weather thread... I believe we are experiencing our earliest fall so far. Summer suddenly went away one night, and we woke up to fall which really makes me sad. I hate the cold with a passion. Just one more reason to move to Hawaii.

89.4 in Dallas, mostly cloudy, and our brand o'muggy. I'm gonna be sweaty tonight for sure, and not in a good way. Hate it when I've just washed my hair.
