mandyblue, you should tell some more about that Christmas cake you said you were going to make. Most Americans don't know that there's more to baking than the cakes and cookies they're used to. Your Christmas cake may surprise them. (I'm extremely fond of British baking, BTW. Whenever I've been there I wanted to stop into every bakery I passed. I dig rock cakes and oatcakes.)

Hi margarine here we go. In the UK we have a lot of traditional season food for christmas. One is a Christmas cake which is a a big round rich fruit cake which is the main focuse on the table at tea time. The recipe can be handed down from generation, the recipe I used belonged to my mothers mother and I do it everyyear.
What gose in the cake is this losts of dried fruit currants,raisins and sultanas which we soak in brandy the night before. grounded almons, cherries, eggs, brown suger butter, flour and black treacle mix all together but in a big round tin and cook in low temp for about 2 and half hours untill done. When cold wrap in tinfoil about 3 or 4 time before cristmas we just make little hols on the top of the cake and feed it with brandy. Then 2 days before christmas we put marzipan and white iceing on and decorate with christmas things. The Christmas cake can last a long time it dose not go off so you can be eating it at the end of January so it keeps

The slippers... $7.99, the new CD... $12.99, the restaurant gift certificates... $50.00, the diamond necklace... $499.00, the matching earrings... $299.00, the autographed picture of Alex O'Loughlin sitting under the tree waiting to be unwrapped on Christmas morning... priceless! *sigh*

The right question is: what food am I not having? ;D he-he Turkey (duh) but I'm not a huge turkey person, or a huge meat person in general, but I'll have some of that. Mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, probably green beans, and other vegetables. Stuffing, because it's delicious, and of course, dessert: lots, and lots of pie. And lots more stuff too. But I'm not sure what everyone's making. I have 3 places to go. 2 on Thanksgiving, and 1 more the next day.

I'll be at home with my Mom, StepDad and house full of puppies. Four of own and one we are Dog sitting since my StepDad's Dad is going to Gatlinburg with his other son's family. We have the traditional feast, turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, real cranberries (not from a can), rolls, pumpkin pie and wine.

Nothing to offer on the Thanksgiving issue, but thanks, mandyblue, for the Christmas cake! Even the description makes me salivate. See, in America we don't know from almond paste (marzipan), especially on cakes, but it's a real frill-thrill for me (Battenburg!) and makes for such great-looking presentations.
