At one time, I loved Christmas. Back when I was married and thought I'd eventually have kids so I could continue traditions from my childhood or establish my own new traditions. But I ended up not being able to have children and also ended up divorced. Now, as bad as it sounds to say, I'm a bit more jaded about Christmas. I do have family back in Ohio (I currently live in NY) but don't often go home--mostly because my siblings kinda have their own lives and I end up feeling like an interloper. Even though I know they love me and welcome me.
I do often end up going to a friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner and they always request that I bring dessert because they know I like to bake. It's nice. Just not the big family gatherings I'd grown so used to as a kid.

When I was little, we used to have a lot of family for Thanksgiving, but now most of those have passed away or in a few cases moved away. Now it's just me and my brother -- my other brother is off with his in-laws. But one tradition that I always do are pumpkin pies; I think that my brother would disown me if I didn't make them. Can't stand store bought ones.

We always used to visit cousins or grandparents, or they would come to visit us, when I was a child. Once we'd all grown up and everyone was off doing different things, it stopped being like the Christmasses I remember. After a while, it feels like you're trying to re-create something that's been and gone. I hope you enjoy your Christmas whatever it holds. <hug>

I'll probably be here all day tomorrow. If I don't go up to the mountains and do some work at my grandparent's place.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Just listening to the only traditional Thanksgiving song I know, "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie. After that I will be heading off to my sister's house in Queens. I just have to pick up some cupcakes, which have become our traditional dessert.
