Have a friend who is having stomach surgery tomorrow; should take about 4 hours. He's been in the hospital since December 20th. They have finally found the problem and got him strong enough to withstand the surgery. He missed Christmas, New Year's, his birthday and Easter. His family and friends hope he will be well and home to celebrate Memorial Day with us. If you have room on your prayer lists tomorrow, please include him, his family and definitely his surgeon. Thanks, friends! Will be in my prayers & thoughts.... that all goes well for your friend beadmeup.....

Beadmeup, I'm awfully late weighing in on this but I hope your friend has the worst of surgery behind him and is not suffering any complications. Take care and let us know how he's doing

Just found out that my friend will not be having open heart surgery. He had some tests done that showed that part of his heart died when he had his heart attack, and therefore the surgery would do no good.
He is doing well these days, with such basic things as walking and talking all back to normal, although he does tire easily. He still has one 70% blockage that will have to be taken care of via diet and exercise, so he will continue to learn healthy eating and has figured out what a tread mill is for. Steps in the right direction.
Thank you all for the prayers and inquiries on his progress ... much appreciated!

Wow Runner, I was just thinking about him yesterday, wondering how your friend was doing. Since even with the open heart surgery he would have to make these lifestyle changes, I think it's a big win for him not to have to go through that extensive of surgery without a pay off. Many people don't know that that's what a "heart attack" is: a part of the heart muscle has died from lack of oxygen due to a blockage or spasm of the cardiac arteries. I'm glad you put that in there, Runner. Continued prayers and wishes of comfort to you and your friend....

Thank you, all. Again, much appreciated. It has been a huge adjustment for him, now that he can no longer eat whatever he wants. But he is feeling well and enjoying life.
Apparently it was a greater than expected portion of the heart that had died.
