I will be fine as long as it doesn't become the Steve and Catherine show and turn into a soap. Remember Max is a series regular and he doesn't show up all the time......so hopefully they won't let her become the 5th member of 5-0. The Enterprise is being decommissioned and maybe they are going to write that into the plot line and she will be stationed at Pearl doing Naval intelligence. Who knows. At least we know she can act and that she has chemistry with not only Steve, but the rest of the cast too.....I shall look upon this as a happy move on the part of TPTB..... I agree. I definitely don't want it to become the "Steve and Catherine show", but I think what they did with Masi shows that it could work. I am kind of surprised that they took this leap, though--it seems to have come out of left field.

*sigh* Why do I have the feeling I'm going to be the only one who doesn't like this news? Here's the thing, it's not that I don't like Catherine. I'm just skeptical as to how this is all going to play out with her being a regular. Sure have her show up every once in awhile, make her recurring, that's fine. But a regular? Yikes. I'm skeptical. Really skeptical. I hope they play this right and do it in a way that 1. doesn't make her a part of the team, and 2. keeps it from being too soapy. Better than Lori, but, I'll hold out until I see Cath's role before I jump for joy. Just saying. No MF your not the only one I do like Cath and all but only as recurring. And something tells me this could lead to Bori returning to the soap operish love triangle where she tries to off Cath to get Steve. I just hope it doesn't become another Days of Our Hawaii.

While I am a Steve/Catherine fan I have to agree with most here in the fact that it would detract from the show if the romance becomes to much in the forefront. It will be good to have Steve having a life outside of work etc.
If the writers do it right then it wont become "soapy". Steve is Naval Reserve and Catherine is full Navy which means she can be called to wherever when ever. TPTB can stay away from the whole "OMG she's Steve's love interest so lets make it all super angsty by having a bad guy go after her, etc." UGH please keep away from that.
I will remain hopeful that this is a good, maybe even great, move, but we should all remain somewhat pessimistic for now.

Hmmm, I'm wondering if they could work it this way especially after having the crossover episode with NCIS:LA. After crossover the Gov realizes that there needs to be stronger ties between Five-0 and NCIS/The Navy so she becomes a liaison between the two. She could even possibly leave the Navy and become a NCIS Intelligence Analyst(aka Nell on NCIS:LA) as that is common occurrence (See Gibbs on NCIS and Sam on NCIS:LA). Then that way she isn't full time with Five-0 but can be brought in when ever there is a issue with the Navy, Homeland Security or a need for intelligence assets.

Di, I like your ideas for how to make the Catherine character work with the team.....maybe you should put it in PL's suggestion box.

What is troublesome for me about the Borth news is how far TPTB have strayed away from the original series components. Wo Fat was original McG 's arch nemesis and we hardly see any of that tension and plot line any more. Whose the bad guys? Sang Min, Fryer? Gov? They keep bringing in new characters and then drop them and never resolve the story arcs I hope TPTB aren't leaning to compete w/ Castle and Bones format. I agree Jox they just drop stuff like Adam like WTF is he good or bad what about Hiro are we to believe he just turned good? What the hell is Wo Fat agenda oh well I'll just sit back and enjoy it hopefully the rest of the season and next will be kickass.

Di, I like your ideas too! I also agree with MF...I stopped watching soaps years ago when I graduated from college. I certainly don't need to watch it during prime time (I get enough of that crap at work anyway) and would be very disappointed if this became the Steve/Catherine show. I really have enjoyed the last few episodes (especially the last one) - the bromance was back as was the action. I hope they keep it that way.

First off, I'm relieved that most seem to be feeling the same way I do. I will say this, and only because what's done is done and at the end of the day we can't control it, I will reserve judgment until I see it on screen. I think that's the fairest thing at this point because we really don't know what Catherine's role is going to be. I really hope that she is not a member of the team at all, because she's involved with Steve. I really hope they play this right. I would love nothing more than for my skepticism to be totally wrong, but I just don't know. I do not want a soap, and that's what scares me, because it easily could become that. Davilarose makes an excellent point in that Max is a regular and he's not the center of episodes, and he has even been absent in episodes, so I'm hopeful. I'm just trying to stay positive because we have a season 3! I'm so happy we have a season 3, I would just hate if it got screwed up like season 2 did with the Alien's addition. Season 2: The Lori Weston Show, I would hate for Season 3 to be: The Steve/Cath show.

I hope they use Cath like max not in every episode and I really don't want her on the team. I like her as steve girfriend.

I look forward to seeing how they work Catherines character into Season 3.

This move does seem a little out of left field. At the same time, TPTB seem determined to have another female regular besides Kono on the show. Having now made 2 attempts with brand new characters, both of whom crashed like a lead balloon with fans, they must be trying to incorporate an established female character who has had mostly positive fan response. Realistically, Catherine is the only existing female character with a job that could contribute to the crime-solving aspect to the show.
I would actually enjoy an extra female character, who isn't just a girlfriend, as long as they do it right. I don't want it to be the Steve/Cath show either, so maybe giving her similar screentime to what Max is getting would work well. What I don't want to see is either a) she joins the team and they have to hide her relationship with Steve for professional reasons (leading to soap-operaish awkwardness), or b) she joins the team and she and Steve decide to break up for the good of the job (leading to soap-operaish angst and awkwardness).

I am very happy with Michelle Borth joining the show on a more permanent basis. Her character is wonderful with Steve. You have to admit that he deserves some happiness. He has been to hell and back this season. I am celebrating her arrival. Welcome aboard, Michelle.

I'm thrilled to hear that Michelle is signed for more appearances. I do trust that she will be handled much like Max and show up when there is a need for her. And I am relieved that she won't be taking another show like "Combat Hospital" so that the writers feel the need to insert a character like Lori in case they couldn't get Michelle for the occasional love interest. I guess I have more faith than some that this will not become a soap opera and I like the idea of having Steve's connection to the Navy intelligence still intact.

I like everyone's take on this ------now if TPTB shove Catherine down our throats the way they shoved LW down our throats--there is going to be a problem. Hopefully they have all learned from their past mistakes and she will appear only occasionally like Max does. Over on FB some are saying that she will be replacing whomever on the team is killed off in the season finale. I don't think so---but time will tell.
